Songs with the best endings
So we've had a thread with the best opening riffs, here's one with the best endings. I'm interested to see if somebody else puts up what I think is the best ending to a song. Here's an example, I think the last 15 seconds or so of this R.E.M. song is great.

Baba O'Reilly has to be up there with the best.

Shocking twist at the end
|
Thin Lizzy had some great song endings. Chinatown and Waiting For An Alibi spring to mind.
There's possibly mileage in another thread for 'songs which turn into a completely different song'. Layla and I Am The Resurrection are obvious examples. |
Suspicious Minds by Elvis with its false fade out
|
Hey Jude...though a long 'ending'
|
The last minute of the 12" version of Sister Surprise by Gary Numan is brilliant.
|
"Perhaps Vampires......" by Arctic Monkeys where you think it's finished but it isn't.
|
The end of Radiohead's 'National Anthem' sounds like a massive punch up. Love it.
|
Love You More - The Buzzcocks
EMI-Sex Pistols |
Down in the sewer- The Stranglers
|
I love the closing run of this song and especially the last chord everybody hits at 3:35.

What's Your Name, Virginia Plain

If you like Mandolins and don't mind a wee bit of goth then the rather excellent and unique track 'Mask' (1982) by Bauhaus is something worth definitely discovering.
To get the full effect listen from the beginning though. Trust me you weren't have heard anything like it. I first heard it on release and still listen to it today. |
Any Nick Cave song. The ending is always a massive relief

Always liked the end of Too Much Too Young by The Specials:
"Ain't you heard of the starving millions? Ain't you heard of contraception? D'you really want a program of sterilization? Take control of the population boom It's in your living room Keep the generation.... gap Try wearing a cap!" |
Also like the end of Turning Japanese by The Vapors.
