Kelly was a right back for Liverpool in the same way that Tomkins was a right back for West Ham. They wanted to play centre back, weren't first choice so had to make do.

With the benefit of his confidence etc I quite fancy seeing him play in a 3 with the 2 Macs in a match. If he can apply the same energy and intensity to the LM slot we could have 3 mobile midfielders that can each do a bit of everything but with different passing styles, not suggesting it’s our first choice at the min. But something I would be interested to see.

Last year the club had a deal in place for JR to go to Swansea as part of our plan to buy Ayew. JR refused to go and this meant that Ayew came to us on loan. This season we got Ayew for a much lower price. Just imagine, if JR had not refused to go to Swansea, we could have paid a much higher price for Ayew and lost JR.

As others have said, it is a failure of the club and coaching staff that they have let him rot (and tried to sell him to a championship club last year) until the injury crisis has forced them to play him recently.

Makes you wonder about whether Camarasa and Sorloth were getting similar treatment and what could have been.

Now with JR filling in impressively at LB, it may be a good excuse for the board not to sign a full back in this window. I think we definitely need pacy/attacking type RB but once PVA and Schlupp are fit we should have 3 very good options for the LB position.

I would say about 95% of throws are fouls throws in the Premier League now.

Isn’t Van Aanholt one of the quickest players in the Premier League? Very useful to have in the backline.

I love PVA, he's a brilliant player but that's mainly going forward. He's got serious defensive deficiencies, particularly his positioning.

Riedewald has done well, no doubt and probably surpassed most people's expectations, maybe even Roys

However PVA is still first choice by a decent margin

Not for me and I don't think I'm on my own. As I said, love PVA but he's definitely got some competition now, which is a good thing.

I think we should try pva as a left mid, or wing back. For me defensively pva is not good enough.

We don't need Jairo to get forward as he can just pass the ball to Wilf. Seems to work well.
