Martin Kelly

This went under the radar a bit. Signed a contract extension at the end of last year.

Mmm, not sure I agree with 'good'...

Bit surprised to hear this. Thought he might move on in the summer as he seems to be even further down the pecking order under BFS..

He was a big part of our problems for most of this season. I'd have rather he left but i guess as a cover who will rarely play he is ok.

Doesn't mean he won't leave just because he's signed a new contract

Johnnieboy 31-03-2017 10:01 AM

Having a contract doesn't seem to be any indication these days of whether a player will be staying or going. It gives him some value to the club though if he does move on

Needs to step up, which parts of his game are actually Premier League standard at present?

Looks like he re-signed under Pardews.

Cheers Pards.

England's Martin Kelly.

Signed just before Pulis left and now signed just before Pardew left!

Someone better let Big Sam know.

Good, honest pro - totally hung out to dry playing in his 3rd best position due to the previous managers inability to buy defensive cover. For those reasons, he's an easy scapegoat. Imagine he's a good guy to have around the place, no issues with this at all compared to others we have on the payroll.

His finishing vs. Spurs.

Good squad player. And a good player to have if we go down.

Nothing against him as a character but I'm sorry, he's just not good enough as a footballer. Lacks speed, composure, vision, strength...ability. Might be alright at Championship level but even then, I'm not so sure.

Second time I've agreed with you today.

He's a cb, who mostly plays as a rb and this season spent a lot of time as a lb. Not his fault at all.

This - usually had a disinterested Townsend in front of him failing to track back and defend and was left to deal with two players; while he has rightly drifted down the pecking order given the signings we have made, he gets an unfair amount of stick on here.

Yup, and I think Sam and Sam will do him a world of good development wise. I think his progress was severely hampered during the Pardew era of basically ignoring the defenders.

Eddie McGoldrick's tash 31-03-2017 12:07 PM

Still not convinced how much future he will have here and if we survive, Sam may go back for Jenkinson. However, this means we would be able to secure a fee if he is surplus to requirements.
