Yeah I find most fuzzes a bit difficult to get on with. They are very much a matter of personal taste. You could spend a fortune trying them all out. I might try a DOD Carcosa when they arrive over here.
I've only played the bass through active monitors and a virtual rig, so haven't put it through any real pedals yet. The broadcast is supposed to be good on bass though. I played a Mesa Mark IV once which was incredible. I think they're all pretty good, even those little 5:25 things make some serious noise. Let us know what you get. With that SG and a Boogie I'd probably never leave the house. |
Spookily, I took delivery of a TC Hypergravity compressor yesterday. So far, so good.
I am tempted by a 2016 Gibson SG HP, but a mate of mine reckons that G-force is a bit of a crock. Any opinions? |
I have a Boss CS-1 compressor but didn't get much joy from it. Not sure why to expect though and never spent much time on it tbf.

Agreed. 'orrible looking.

I like a Gibson SG in theory. In practice, I can't play them due to the left arm stretch required and crappy arthritis. I get the same thing with Firebirds and Jazzmasters.
The current SG Standard looks a good deal, especially with P90s. I always liked the tone Zappa got from his SG, really biting and nasty. |

I may, of course, be terminally biased, as the first electric guitar I ever owned was a Zenta SG copy from Kay's catalogue. It was a horrible plank. :D This is a good watch, from a very decent series for us nerds: |
I agree SG's aren't pretty, but I was looking at a lightweight guitar with good humbuckers for less than a grand.

What sort of stuff are you playing? |

For that sort of money I'd be having a look at Reverends. I believe Stellavista has one. I don't, but they get a lot of praise. This is a great deal with an ebony fretboard, Gibson scale-length, but only one humbucker. It looks a bit like a more comfortable SG shape... http://www.guitar.co.uk/reverend-sen...metallic-black |

Not heavy, humbucking models. Very pretty. I think they've gone up in price since I bought mine, but still plenty of change for a grand. Of course, if you're in a metal band you'll get bottled off stage! :D This is mine. Reverend Buckshot. About £650. |
I only have a good memory for guitar trivia. Couldn't tell you what I did yesterday. Love those reverend designs, offsets are comfy. Does yours get much playing time?
This is a golden age for affordable guitar gear, there must be loads of options for something in Pidster's price range. Best advice is to spend a day trying plenty of them out. |

Thanks for the tips . Regrettably in an effort to help out Santa, the Pidster Exchequer has just taken a bit of a bashing.
I might have a look in the January sales, or go for option two, which is saving up for a decent Les Paul. |

From memory, mine weighs about ten pounds. |

Pidster if you get the chance give a PRS S2 Mira a try, very SG ish in tone and feel but without the marmite looks.

Ok folks, the wife is kindly buying me a looper pedal tomorrow for Christmas. Lost my old one ages ago.
What do you reckon - Boss RC-3, Nano or Ditto? Want something with some loop memory, so I guess the RC-1 is out. Don't want to spend more than a ton - this a just a noodling toy for me. |

I use the tiny basic TC Ditto. Don't know much about the more complicated units. It's good for my purposes and you seem to be able to layer stuff indefinitely, but you can't save anything. Some of the fancier multi delay pedals come with built in loopers now. |
