Yeah I find most fuzzes a bit difficult to get on with. They are very much a matter of personal taste. You could spend a fortune trying them all out. I might try a DOD Carcosa when they arrive over here.

I've only played the bass through active monitors and a virtual rig, so haven't put it through any real pedals yet. The broadcast is supposed to be good on bass though.

I played a Mesa Mark IV once which was incredible. I think they're all pretty good, even those little 5:25 things make some serious noise. Let us know what you get. With that SG and a Boogie I'd probably never leave the house.

Spookily, I took delivery of a TC Hypergravity compressor yesterday. So far, so good.


I am tempted by a 2016 Gibson SG HP, but a mate of mine reckons that G-force is a bit of a crock.

I have a Boss CS-1 compressor but didn't get much joy from it. Not sure why to expect though and never spent much time on it tbf.

I like a Gibson SG in theory. In practice, I can't play them due to the left arm stretch required and crappy arthritis. I get the same thing with Firebirds and Jazzmasters.

The current SG Standard looks a good deal, especially with P90s.
I always liked the tone Zappa got from his SG, really biting and nasty.

Angus Young gets a cracking sound from his, as did Tony Iommi. I've just never liked the look or feel of them as a player.
I may, of course, be terminally biased, as the first electric guitar I ever owned was a Zenta SG copy from Kay's catalogue. It was a horrible plank. :D

For that sort of money I'd be having a look at Reverends. I believe Stellavista has one. I don't, but they get a lot of praise.

This is a great deal with an ebony fretboard, Gibson scale-length, but only one humbucker. It looks a bit like a more comfortable SG shape...

This is a golden age for affordable guitar gear, there must be loads of options for something in Pidster's price range. Best advice is to spend a day trying plenty of them out.

Absolutely. Such a personal thing. None of my other guitars get much time now I have the SG2000. Might have to sell a few. Heavy guitar though, and my aged left shoulder is feeling it!

From memory, mine weighs about ten pounds.

If I get a Les Paul, it won't leave the house and I will play it sitting down.

Pidster if you get the chance give a PRS S2 Mira a try, very SG ish in tone and feel but without the marmite looks.

Les Paul's can be hot and cold. Never consistent which is a shame. My Father has a fair few of them and hey range from pretty damn good to piles of shit. The USA ESP Les Paul I have blows them out the water IMO. What a Gibson Les Paul should be.

Don't want to spend more than a ton - this a just a noodling toy for me.

I use the tiny basic TC Ditto. Don't know much about the more complicated units. It's good for my purposes and you seem to be able to layer stuff indefinitely, but you can't save anything. Some of the fancier multi delay pedals come with built in loopers now.
