James "General" McArthur

Early days but what a terrific player it looks like we have on our hands, I like the McJedley thread but thought "The General" deserves one of his own.

Seems like a great replacement for KG but seemed to play at the front of the 3 so I guess in future our forward line will be either Campbell or Chamakh?

dilem 28-09-2014 04:07 PM

Ok i mean he had a great game, but all this overpraising is too much no? Especially looking at other performances.
If other fans look at this forum, they'll be thinking we are a one-man team at this rate!

He's settled in very well indeed. Relieves some of the workload from Jedi and Ledley but is the one released to go forward in support of the attack.

I was particularly impressed with some of his footwork yesterday. He's son much more than a rugged, workmanlike CM.

In him and Ledley (fast becoming my favourite player) we've made two very astute signings.

For all the criticism, our transfer policy has worked out superbly since promotion. The owners must take credit for selecting players with the right character profile, all at the right price.

Not sure that's entirely true: what about Kebe and the shambles of Marange?

But yes, we certainly have some very good upgrades though

Stavros 69 28-09-2014 07:04 PM

Allows Ledley to push on. Also seems to have raised Jedis game.

To be fair that was our first transfer window under Holloway. The main thing is we really seem to have leant from that. Hageland at the moment seems our only really dodgy signing since then.

Pretty sure you can lay the blame for both of those signings on our manager at the time.

He was everywhere. 80% pass rate, involved right the way across the middle and right of the pitch. Has the potential to massively improve our ball retention while sacrificing none of our grit or counter-attacking potency.

Consensus of opinion is that Kebe was a Parish call not an IH one

EdMan 28-09-2014 10:02 PM

Between Parish and Holloway they were just getting anybody in in that first window weren't they? They pretty much admitted that at the time.

People don't generally get far in any business without being quick learners.

His volley out of the air to Ledley in front of the Arthur was superb.

This.

Plus I think Marange was a Coe recommendation. I think a lot of our signings that summer (good and bad) were down to Coe.

Kidofwonder 28-09-2014 11:34 PM

it seems we basically wanted to scout Marange but couldnt so we took a punt and it turned out he wasnt up to it.

Good point, Jedi is so good in the air he should really be scoring more goals like the one on Saturday. Hopefully this system will encourage him to get forward more.

I was thinking, Is McArthur Neil Warnocks biggest transfer in terms of ?

'scuse my ignorance but how does this work technically speaking....Im an old git so bare with..but years ago Goldberk spoke of putting computer chips in players shirts to monitor their performance..
Is this how these type of Stats are obtained these days...the detail is mind boggling but im fascinated to know how the stats are obtained..
Anyone ?

By someone watching the game very slowly I'd imagine and only watching that player.

Assuming Opta data, it's done at normal speed. Two inputters and a checker. It's supposed to be extremely difficult.

Marange wasn't a recommendation by Coe.

McArthur is in the latest Scotland squad. He was immense on Saturday, think he is showing great early promise as I was impressed at Everton too. His wages must be pretty high.
