Meyer is singled out, but Benteke and Sakho have also got a lot to prove.

I'm hoping all three look at Jairo for inspiration. Personally I think Meyer lacks the physicality to get in a Hodgson 11.

Meyer has had plenty of chances. It's a salutary lesson to compare the impact that Eze has had with Meyer's inability to affect games.

Not so much whether he is any good - he was good in Germany, but hasn't performed here. It is more that people still actually think he somehow deserves a chance in the team when he just hasn't delivered, and we have done just fine without him. Who are we kicking out to accomadate him anyway?

Like Camarassa, the longer that Meyer is away from the first team, the better he gets.

Surely a good player can play in any league?! :confused: I get that it can take time to settle in to a new country, and leagues across Europe tend to have differences in how fast their games are played, the physicality, etc. But a good player will make themselves fit into that.

It's a team game, and whether a player is 'good' is entirely dependent on how they fit into the team.

A world-class player can fit in anywhere, but there are a lot of top-tier players that work very well in one team and much less well in another, let alone leagues.

I don't think it's simple with Wickham. He actually was good for a while.

Plus, I think was more the case of the longer Benteke was in the first team, the better Wickham got.

I was unconvinced by Jairo at first, but through his effort, with help from the club, he is proving that he is worthy and continues to get better

When Jairo came the thing that excited me was his passing rate at Ajax - he is doing 90%+ for us now and God knows when someone else did that. Him, Wilf and Eze could make an exciting partnership. Thing that lets us down in attack at the moment is the loss of the ball cheaply by Andros and Jordan. Need a five year contract

Pretty much how I feel about Jairo. I don't think he helped himself for a long old time by basically not giving a shit. I still have visions of him being the worst player on the pitch in a Palace U23 v AFC Wimbledon U23 friendly last Summer. I guess something must have finally clicked with him that he better get his arse in gear, and thankfully he has made the necessary changes and that has been recognised by Roy and the coaches and rewarded with a chance which he has actually taken.
