Crystal Palace want USA striker Daryl Dike — but are put off by his £18million price.

Boss Patrick Vieira is keen to bring in an extra forward and his scouts have suggested the Orlando City hitman after his loan at Barnsley last season.

With the Eagles backed by American cash, it would be a major plus to land Dike, 21 — a powerful prospect who could be one of his country’s top players for years to come.

The striker has netted three goals and one assist in eight MLS appearances this term.

But MLS outfit Orlando have put a big valuation on Dike — and that does not fit with Palace’s plans as they want a striker to bring through rather than start immediately.

Not the clubs fault that he had, for the largest part, been poor at best. He always looks like he’s blowing out of his arse!

AddoWolz 19-09-2021 08:35 AM

I guess Patrick Vieira has had a good look at the players he’s got in training and matches and has come to the conclusion that we need another Striker .

It sounds like a contingency plan, and a good one. If Edouard does the business over the next couple of seasons he'll be off, and Dike looks like he has something about him already.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we went back in for Nketiah though.

Pretty sure there’s an obligation to buy him for north of £10m if he makes X number of first team appearances so unless the two clubs come to an agreement in January he’s in limbo.

Doubt he’d even get game time if there was an injury crisis.

I think its clear with him not making the bench recently that his time is up. No point playing him for the few minutes in games and having to pay 10+ million. Although I’ll always be grateful for his goal against the weed

Let’s hope we don’t ditch him before he gets a run in the cup.

I imagine the decision has already been made to get rid/ not sign him. So unless we have an injury crisis I don't think we'll see him much at all.

Be interesting to see if there is any negotiation to send him back in January. If Mainz know we won't buy him they may want to sell him elsewhere ASAP.
And the player may be itching to move on.

It is a little damning that Mateta isn’t even getting much of a look in for the U23s

Me too. Not exactly flooded with riches up front.

Kirby 20-09-2021 10:22 AM

I watched Philadelphia Union 3-1 Orlando City last night. Dike was on the bench for some reason but got on for the final 20 mins or so.

He didn't look particularly great but granted 20 mins isn't really enough to judge.

Paired with his spell at Barnsley last season I'd say he's a player worth keeping an eye on but he's nowhere near the finished article so the figures being touted are ridiculous.

Reckon he'd be another Altidore if we signed him now and threw him straight in.

He will leave and people will say that both Ray and Patrick didn't give him a chance [just like Max and Sorloth who have gone onto be world class]

I'd imagine that's more because the point of our Under 23 squad is to develop our own players rather than loan signings.
