A mate of mine introduced me to black mirror the other day which is a netflix original written and directed by Charlie Brooker.
I have only seen 2 episodes so far but I like how every one is a stand alone and not in series.

I've downloaded Twin Peaks, having missed it when it was originally shown all those years ago....just abut to watch the pilot episode, is it worth all the hype it received at the time?

Black Sails has some quality swearing and gratuitous content particularly in the earlier programmes.

Channel 4's No Offence is superb!. Finished last night but available on box set.

Stranger things and Colony are both quite watchable.

It was quite good watching. Although not a comedy, the stupidity of some of the protagonists did make a very sad, shameful story fairly light-hearted (e.g. when the step-father OD'd).

Having Harry Enfield doing his Kevin & Perry routine as Karen Matthews was a brilliant bit of casting.

Fairly light hearted ??? I know the scene you mean, but the story over 2 hrs is pretty heartbreaking....

it's old but I've been watching Band of Brothers this week and it's quality. The action is like a whole series of Saving Private Ryan and considering it's a war show the characters are pretty good as well. Even Damian Lewis is likeable..

think I might stick on The Pacific next even if it isn't as good

Black comedy zombie stuff that I loved. Just out on Netflix with Drew Barrymore as the zombie mom. Lots of laughs amidst the gore.

Watched the first episode of Roots last night and was very impressed.

Superb, thought I'd struggle as never been a fan of subtitles but I love it, a gripping story set at a fascinating time, glad they have already commissioned 2 further series.

I agree, first two episodes have been excellent. Don't really remember the original so unable to compare the two but well worth watching this new adaptation.

Half way through this and finding it very enjoyable.

The Pacific is still very good. Check out Generation Kill too if you like that sort of thing (and havent seen it already). It's a HBO 6 part series on the Iraqi war.

I watched most of the first series, but didn't bother with the last couple or so. The plot was just too unbelievable. I'm surprised to see it's so highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes etc.

I'm watching the 2nd half of the 4th season of vikings. It will be interesting to see how it develops. On the BBC i'm watching Taboo. Comedy wise i'm watching the most recent modern family.

Stranger things, it is hard to say what its about without making it sound shit, it is set in the eighties and anyone of a certain age who loved the Goonies and x files will love it, i cannot recommend it enough.

The Blacklist

Yeah the continuity is excellent too. Better than in Deutchsland 83 i'd say. Happy that it's been left open ended enough for a second season.

The Moorside - a two part drama on iPlayer on the Shannon Matthews kidnapping centred around the friends who went looking for her. Sheridan Smith is very good as Julie Bushby, a friend of Karen Matthews. Usually these things are jazzed up a bit to make them exciting but this stays realistic. Decent watch.

Inside Number 9 has started well again.

Taboo - Excellent period drama, Tom Hardy is just brilliant.

Luther - New to this watched them all over a week, loved them.

Lucifer - Bloke from Miranda plays the devil in LA who helps a detective solve crimes.........its like watching an old 70's cop show with a small budget. Passes 45 minutes unspectacularly.

Westworld - Thandie Newtons minge makes it watchable.

Ballers - Depends how you feel about yankee sports I suppose.

'Madam Secretary' on Sky Living. The best thing on TV at the moment if you're into US political dramas.
Now into Season 3 on Wednesday nights. Don't understand why they've relegated it to the 10pm slot though?

Have quite enjoyed the first 2 episodes I've seen of "The Kettering Incident". Sky Atlantic.

Set in Tasmania so the scenery is amazing. All a bit Twin Peaks'y (log mills, missing girls, night time forest parties) and strange so far but have found quite compelling. Hoping it continues in same form.

I concur, started watching this last night. Enlightening as I knew little about his early life.

I've also quite enjoyed Taboo. Although she's not credited for it, I'm close to certain that the scary lady in the lake is Noomi Repace. Has anyone else thought the same?

The whole series is available for download, so we watched it all this week - it starts well enough but then becomes a chore to sit through, one of those where you stick with it in the hope that something interesting or profound happens.....but the ending is appalling :(

Quite funny, with lesbian kissing aplenty.

I've started watching The Magicians. It is a cross between Harry Potter and Narnia but is very dark at times and definitely not for children.

Computer hackers trying to cause chaos.

Mr Robot season 1 is excellent, not so sure about season 2.

I am enjoying Lethal Weaon (I think it has just started in the UK), but can't compare the TV series to the film as I have never seen it.

Also on season 1 of The Republic of Doyle on Netflix, thats watchable too, Canadian Private Investegator series.

Watchable, but a format that's been done to death. It's essentially The Office in a deprived rural environment. The lad is even channeling Gareth, down to the haircut and accent.

I caught the beginning of this the other day and I was puzzled at first trying to work in the first segment if there really were people that daft or not. Because some reality shows seem worse TBH. Couldn't keep watching it. Bit like the early Office, I appreciate why it works but can't be a**** to watch for long what is essentially people being normal but stupid. It's a bit like a one shot joke being repeated.

The one I could watch which is closest (but not the same at all) is the one with Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones in it called Detectorists. Its about as real as I can cope with these days :D but funny. TBH I think I must be the one out of step though.

Second series of The Last Kingdom has started

Watched a few episodes on a flight over recently. Very dark indeed, but pretty watchable.

Really enjoying Iron Fist. It got pretty slated by the reviewers but I'm 5 episodes in and I think it's great. Not perfect, but lots of fun.

I'm with you on that mate. I quite like the Marvel world that Netflix have created.

I've not seen any of it. Do you need to watch everything from the start in order to fully follow it? or can you skip between films and shows?

The Netflix shows don't need you to have watched the films at all. It's self contained, although they do make general references very occasionally to events in the films.

As for the series themselves, I'd probably advise watching them in the order they've been released:

Daredevil
Jessica Jones
Daredevil 2
Luke Cage
Iron Fist

You could not, but there are a few connections that wouldn't make so much sense otherwise.

You could quite easily watch each series as a stand alone, but there are a couple of characters that are in the other shows and others that are referenced.

To watch in exact order you'd need to go: Daredevil Season 1, then Jessica Jones, then back to Daredevil season 2, then Luke Cage and finally Iron Fist :eek::D.

I think they're all entertaining if you are prepared to overlook the odd plot hole. Far better than Arrow or any of the other comic adaption anyway. There are more shows on the way apparently too.

There's The Defenders coming up, which will see all the characters finally unite, which should be interesting. Think that's likely to be May.

After that, I think the next one will be The Punisher, at the end of the year, and then JJ2, DD3 and LC2.

Sorry, another question. I've just seen there is ABC and Netflix series. IS there a crossover between them? Is the ABC stuff as good as the netflix stuff?

Agree with Brighton that Daredevil is probably the best, but I also like the second series with the introduction of The Punisher.

No crossover - they are totally seperate universes. I haven't really watched any of the ABC ones, but what I have seen was nowhere near as good IMO. Netflix have the benefit of releasing all of a series in one go, with no advert breaks of course. So really their series run more like long movies. It means the pacing is different to a traditional TV show. I love the format myself. All the Netflix series would be 18 equivalent too, so much more adult I'd say.

I'll probably get shot down in flames for this, but I've been watching 'Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads' on UKTV play. Either I'm getting old or the writing is superb, as they're still really funny. I'm just a little too young to have seen the originals.

Anyone else been watching Legion? It's an FX series, connected to the x-men film series, and it's very good. This is no ordinary superhero/comic book series. I won't say much more for fear of spoilers.

The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret raised many a chuckle for me, but I've no doubt it's not everyone's cup of tea

It's quite bizarre but watched the first episode of Dirk Gently's Hollistic Detective Agency on Netflix the other night. Series made by BBC America set in the States, based on Douglas Adams books, stars Elijah Wood and UK actor Samuel Barnett. A LOT of stuff happens in episode 1 and not a lot connected at the moment but enjoyed it and interested to see how it develops.

Just started Lucky Man which I am actually enjoying despite the presence of James Nesbitt who I find a bit irritating.

This weeks was a repeat, albeit a very good episode, so I think there were only 3 or 4 new ones this time around.

I've been watching the Netflix series 13 reasons why. A high school girl commits suicide and sends a set of 13 cassette tapes to the people who had something to do with her reasons for ending her life. I thought it was going to be a silly teen show but it's actually very good and confronting.
