The waste of a club called Charlton

Losing two nil to Fulham. Relegation looks more likely than promotion. The ground has huge pockets of empty seats, well, except where the Fulham fans are.

Sorry excuse of a club.

I hadn't noticed, and don't really care. I look out for Brighton results and Millwall's. I cast an eye at the top and bottom of the leagues below. But really, Charlton are an irrelevance.

Jim Cannon 04-10-2015 12:24 PM

Yes having a little look myself. Their defenders look league 1 standard which is where they are heading, handily.

Billy Rhino 04-10-2015 12:43 PM

As they've become Millwall lite why dont they just merge with them? Charwall, Millton, the Walltons?

Bipe 04-10-2015 08:25 PM

Millton?

MK Dins have done that already.

Its funny given they started the season so well! I remember when the draw was made for the cup I commentedit wouldn't be easy as they were playing really well... I'm not sure they've won a game since then!

14,661 of famous support for a London derby, the wankers pulled it bag to 2-2. Wankers.

I fear for them a bit. They're owned by a Belgium whose commitment to the club is unknown. What we do know is they're ground is a valuable piece of real estate and close to an area rising rapidly. If you walk round the ground they have a surprising amount of land and a large car park along the side. Millwall are in a similar position so they'd both better hope the local councils are determined to keep football there because given social housing pressures and housebuilding requirements land is only going to become more in demand. I can see one of them moving outwards towards Dartford or Ebbsfleet one day.

Housing estates. Good idea.

Nth Kent Eagle 04-10-2015 09:04 PM

Actually I've an idea. That airport that Boris wanted to build in the Thames estuary seems a bit of a waste. If instead they built an island off the coast of Grain and housed Charlton and Millwall there in a ground share there wouldn't be any local residents to have their front gardens and car wing mirrors damaged.

I loved it when we played them and that girl with the Charlton fans responded to fans' chants about 'getting them out for the lads' by turning 180 degrees to us, with a silly smile on her face, and giving us all the finger with both hands. I was smitten.

i forgot there was a club between us and Wet Sham. And the hammers had forgotten too.

It's been on the backburner for a while about a new Charlton ground on the Greenwhich Peninsula.

They had permission to extend the Valley into a 40k ground. Should have done it when the going was good

They've always had very very cheap season ticket prices. It's part of the reason why they always had a decent attendance in the championship and league 1. They also give out a hell of a lot of free tickets for each game.

Talk about Charlton having a rollercoaster period over the past 25years or so is an understatement to say the least. Looking back some years ago, a friend of mine was a major shareholder at the club (on their Valley return after their demise) was always full of praise for their efficiency and how well the club was being run on and off the pitch.
Now, there seems to be no way back to anywhere near the "well run" club they once were and a return to once good days, similar to Fulham currently.
This possibly shows how important and sensible our Board have been in the running of the club since our very own near demise not that long ago. Like most fans I too have been critical of how long plans for the rebuilding of the stadium has taken, and whether the Board are dragging their feet. And possibly not appreciating all the hard work that has gone into cementing what should be our No.1 priority of staying in the premiership, and that the rest will then follow.
