Terrible Cover Versions

Here goes-

Theme From Mahogony - Mariah Carey- usual caterwauling and pointless vocal histrionics on Diana Ross cover.

You Can't Hurry Love - Phil Collins Weedy vocals over what sounds like a Supremes backing track.

Any more?

I'll do one good one bad.

Bad - 'Walk this Way' - Sugababes 'vs' Girls Aloud

Good - 'I Got you Babe' - UB40 & Chrissie Hynde. One of my all time favourite songs.

I can't think of a more egregious monstrosity than Michael Bolton's cover of When A Man Loves A Woman.

Cathy Dennis did a horrible cover of Waterloo Sunset in the late 90s, that springs to mind too.

And not quite a cover, but Coldplay's ripping off of the riff from Kraftwerk's 'Computer Love' is one of the more painful musical experiences of my life.

Stunningly awful cover of the pistols God Save the Queen.

I give you Michael Fagan and the bollocks brothers (The bloke that got into Buck House). Incidently I have a copy if anyone is prepared to part with hard cash.

I can't find a video of this (probably a good thing) but it did happen. Roy North singing Splish Splash into a loofah on The Basil Brush show.

I think Mel C from spice girls once overed Anarchy in the UK but changed the word Anarchist to Sporty Spice :D

All Saints Under the Bridge was pretty rubbish. A very powerful song which they managed to change into a bland pop song devoid of any kind of emotion or depth. Same applies to whichever of the X factor non entities covered Hallelujah.

Good covers: Roxy Music Jealous Guy, Johnny Cash Hurt and Happy Mondays Step On :p

Edenbridge Eagle In Exile 29-07-2011 08:32 PM

Yes. remember John Peel playing it and saying it was only being given away free with the first 80 000 sales of Black and White. So I rushed out and ordered the album before its release, keeping my fingers crossed I would get lucky. I was...well I thought I was as I got the attached white vinyl single... Only to find the album not anywhere as good as their first two and then they went and released it as a single later anyway.

Seeing a song about heroin unknownly turned into a bland pop track was rather amusing though.

PalaceBhoy 29-07-2011 11:06 PM

Duran Duran - White Lines.

C*nts.

Supa Ol 29-07-2011 11:11 PM

Surely nothing can touch Katherine Jenkins murdering No Woman No Cry?
