I remember when he made his debut for Palace it was as a center forward and was probably one of the most inept performances I have ever seen from a Palace player (at the time). It was to the point of just feeling sorry for him.
To go from that point to where he ended up would support your "most improved player" statement. Kudos to whoever got him to convert to right back, although I guess it took a long time for Palace fans to fully appreciate him, and always seemed to be somewhat of an undeserved cult figure.
