Joe Cole would have been a far better player had he gone to a side in which

1. he would not take 3 years to break into the first team
2. he had a remote chance of playing in a Champions League Final

In case it has escaped anyone's attention, when he moved from West Ham to Chelsea, he was the nation's hottest young prospect. For a long while he had to sit it out in the reserves, while England seemed devoid of a Left Sided player. Had England, of course, had anybody who could play with his Left Foot, it is unlikely that Cole would find a place at all in the current line up.

Yes, he is undoubtedly quality. Is he as good as his initial promise 5 years ago? No, I don't think so and nor is SWP likely to be.
