Scotland used to be a popular destination for lower league English teams, however, my understanding is, fell out of favour for pre-season tours for a variety of reasons:

- Too many teams treating it as England v Scotland grudge matches, leading to injuries.
- Ditto fans, crowd trouble recorded at games (perhaps unsurpisingly) involving Millwall & Birmingham.
- State of the pitches (less of an issue given the number of 3G surfaces now)
- Low standard of opposition

The main one these days, however, is that The Scottish League Cup now starts in 2nd week of July meaning teams outside the Prem are occupied at both weekends and midweek, until the League season starts.
