No but Mr Parish himself said he has diverted nearly all the money to the first team squad since promotion.

Maybe if he had spent a little less there on waste, and there has been a lot of it, and had put say 15% aside for The Academy, only an average of £10mill a year that, to try to make it one of the very best, then rather than enjoying our first youth breakthrough since Wilf SEVEN years ago we may have been looking at four or five Wan-Bissakas by now and made that investment pay for itself.

He had the power to do it did our Steve but he chose not.

dude, chill.... he has played two games, one ok against Spurs, and one good against man U, they are not clones, some will rise to the challenge, some will not. Its not a Ulreka moment, whereby one young'un does well, so we have wasted all our cash, should have just thrown the youth players in!

These hasbeens/overthehills/not good enough's haven't done bad in keeping us in the top flight for the longest period in our whole entire history.

Anyway, Bissaka played really well yesterday, well played, hopefully this is the start of a great future for the lad, from what Woosie says, he has a good attitude and work ethic so im excited to see this guy progress.

Where exactly does the Academy need this investment? What does it need that it doesnt have at the moment to turn out these 'four or five Wan-Bissakas'?

Yeah he did to be fair. TFM however has put in a few equally good RB performances. The one I think has been a bit pants is JW.

Well since Parish has supported Palace there have been occasions where there were youth flurries, late 70s and early to mid 90s and the Watson/Clyne/Moses eras come to mind, so the template was there for him from memory that it is achievable

You employ the best coaches you can get relatively speaking. You hire managers who believe in the importance of youth. You get the best scouts available. You have the infrastructure to attract very good young players.

My local club do it and have recently seen Ethan Ampadu off to Chelsea and Ollie Watkins off to Brentford and have a fantastic reputation for youth development and first team chances and they haven't got two pennies to rub together.

It just has to be a serious part of the sporting/business model. The will has to come from the very top. Or we can keep wasting tens of millions on the Mutchs, Adebayors, Doyles, Flaminis, etc.

As has been said, his performances in his Two premiership games has been very very encouraging and we look to have unearthed a hidden gem. But lets not get carried away as this is a lad playing without pressure and expectancy at the moment but that will change when fans expectancy becomes greater, but in fairness has looked excellent and will get better in time, but is the key word Time.
We must ensure that not too much expectancy is put on his young shoulders at this time especially in our current struggling position, but also with our makeshift defence around him adds even more pressure.
I feel when Dann and Sakho are back in Central defence will help his confidence but also to develop better defensively, and with Zaha linking up along the Right side will add to his effectiveness as an attacking Right back.
For me he is ahead of Fosu-Mensah currently as First choice, so he can be sent back to Man Utd with the knowledge that we have a replacement RB that is more than capable to replace him, but is he better to replace Ward currentl? NO, and fans must remember that this is a youngster developing his game currently.
As an aside, I would also like to see young Kirby given cameo roles in the last 10 minutes of games as we have seen you dont know until you try, also as Man City do with Foden, these are very talented young players that need to be given gradual exposure if we are to see their capabilities providing it is done in a way that helps youngsters develop and Not be pressurised too soon.

Can you imagine how good a RB you become if you go up against Zaha every day in training? Another reason to love Wilf!

You canít actually be happy with how the academy has been ran over the past few years, surely? Iím sure youíve heard about the bang average facilities theyíve had to contend with at Goals? Compare them to the facilities of Brighton say - thereís a reason why Wan-Bissaka is the first League debutant since Kyle Da Silva.

It sounds like we have a couple of good age groups coming through now, with Richard Shaw & Paddy McCarthy doing really good jobs. But there is no doubt that the academy has been overlooked at the expense of throwing everything at Prem survival - which frustrates me, as itís very short-term. Even Jordan figured out that having a good academy is vital - hence why we had Moses, Clyne & Wilf to name but a few.

Well he's already held his own against Spurs and Man United. No reason why he can't do it against Chelsea, as well as the other remaining fixtures.

At least this ridiculous injury situation has brought one positive.

Very good point. Training against top players can only make you better if you have the hunger.

The prospect of Bissakka and Wilf down the right as well is exciting!

As for the lets not get carried away mob, he clearly has all the right attributes to be a class act. IF you cant get excited by him then i'd give up watching palace. There will also be 0 pressure on him for the rest of the season and even if he does make a mistake, id be quicker to forgive him than i would Kelly

The kid has done brilliantly against two of the top teams in the world / Europe. We have every reason to be pleased as fans. Say what you like about FDB he had him in the preseason tour. Of course we might lose Ward on a free so still need cover. Nice touch last nght was our young star taking a throw in front of Jose who patted him on the back as if to say ‘you are doing well son’.

Believe me, I'm no fan of Jordan, but what he did with the academy during his tenure should be applauded. It's unfortunate that we didn't see some of them develop further in Palace shirts, and sold them at a discount because of the financial situation.
