The official cpfc twitter account put a video up of wilf turning Ashley Young inside out, but he blocks the cross anyway

Townsend is seeing it from a professional football player perspective. That clubs should more professional and not mock other players, I agree with him. I don't like the tone of the social media team at Palace (and in general) the faux friendly but dim sounding tone of a 14 year old.

Also most of us look at that clip and think Zaha failed to get the cross in or go past Young so it's pointless.

Bigger question would be why someone at the club thought it was a good idea to show Wilf's inability to put in a cross.

yes, they could have edited the video to not include that bit - it's an unusual one, I can see both points of view on this

He is not questioning the clubs honest practices. This is a social media team who are trying to drive content, he see it from a player's perspective. This behaviour is effectively trolling by the club, not dignified at all, and it encourages similar behaviour by other clubs. Who know's Townsend may have respect for Young as a person so is defending him.

I think the media team need to move away from this 'oh it's lit, top bins' kind of tone, personally as it makes me cringe.

Celebrate by replaying the goals, showing a good bit of skill or a great save is welcomed, but I do not like the trolling of other clubs or their players, we should be better than that.

Does seem to be a pretty immature post, and like something that would get posted on The BBS. Not sure it should have been (or was) sanctioned by the club, unless the guy has gone rogue.

These things have a habit of coming back to haunt you, i.e. Young scoring a belter at SP later in the season.

I think you’re missing part of the point in contention, which is that the clip chosen doesn’t actually show Young screwing up.

The other point is whether it’s appropriate for a professional club to try to take the pee of an opposition player? I’m not saying you can’t personally post stuff on your twitter like this if you wish....but I do agree with Andros and others that the club looked childish for doing this.

Would you have found it equally funny if Sheffield had posted stuff mocking our players last weekend? I’m sure there was plenty of material for them to choose from!
