Given we have agreed a 2 year loan which is fairly unheard off presumably Trabanzor has the option to buy him at a reduced price as well. Certainly I doubt whether we will be getting our money back.

Things dont stay the same. Players become good (Pukki), Players become bad (Benteke) never write someone off too early like many have done here.

He does need confidence. The trouble was with Sørloth was when given a chance he rarely if ever put it about though. You can be low on confidence but still chase and harry opponents and most of the time he didn't seem willing to do the hard graft annoyingly.

My recollection from the reports is he has gone on loan for two years while at the same time extending his contract with us. The contract extension mean if they don’t execute their option to buy him he will still have 1 year contract left with us so we could potentially recoup some fee from another club. If Sorloth plays a certain number of games (atleast half I think the report said) then then trabzonspor are obliged to buy him and the fee agreed plus the loan fees would pretty much get our money back. So basically, if he does very well the best we can get is getting most of our money back from the original purchase. He will only play for Palace again if he does poorly in Turkey. This might all be incorrect but that was roughly what was reported when he first went to Turkey.

I was very frustrated by him and his form here and particularly because it always appeared to be an absurd fee to pay for a play with such little pedigree. We should never have paid that much.

However it is good to hear he is doing well in Turkey. If he continues to then it means we will either get the transfer fee for him and have more money to invest in the squad or we will have a player returning with more confidence and in better form.

He can obviously only do well in the team he is playing so it's no criticism of him but of course we do still need to remember it is a big jump in quality between the Turkish league and English top flight.

Why were you frustrated with him because of the transfer fee?

For me... I saw bits in him that meant he might be ok... certainly better than CB. That’s not to say he didn’t have poor games.. but he showed flashes of potential that meant we should have given him more chances up top (not wide).
