So with Jairo and Schlupp missing what is this?

27 appearances last year as a 'utility' player. Missed 9 games with a hamstring and a couple with a knock.

Hopefully, Olise, being back in training, is ready to play in a couple of weeks.
Olise is back in training so will be in contention for Spurs, whether as starting or on the bench. So if Zaha and Ayew start we have cover in the wide positions on the bench.

Hopefully Schlupp has not done anything serious and will be back too or only miss 1 or 2 games. Shortly after that we go into the next international break and Eze's return will hopefully not be long after that.

We have decent depth before we even start to consider our talented youngsters.

Lots of people expecting Eze to be back in Oct/Nov. This would be 6 months after his injury. Still sounds early to me. Has the club / Eze himself actually said anything?

From 20th August:

“Michael is feeling much better,” said Vieria. “He has started doing some really light work on the field, so there is some progress on him, but he is still far away from starting training with the team.”

It was reported following the Chelsea loss that Eberechi Eze, who shone last season under Roy Hodgson and became one of the main attacking sparks in the side, is well ahead of schedule in his recovery from the Achilles injury that he suffered before the end of the season.

When asked how Nathan Ferguson’s recovery from the same injury was progressing, Vieira said: “Nathan is in the same way as Eze. Nathan is feeling better. He is improving, but those players haven’t yet started doing work on the field, so they are still doing some work in the gym. It will take a couple of weeks before they start working on the field.”

It’s a look at the squad composition to ask where Jairo and Schlupp would be best deployed primarily. Obviously they can cover elsewhere but it is crystal clear that they are needed at left back the most.

It does. So maybe we will hear soon that Eze and Ferguson are doing light work on the field? We must be patient with them though: even when they return they are unlikely to be back to what they used to be straight away in terms of pace and mobility, if ever at all sadly.

If Olise starts well I see a front 3 of Zaha + Benteke/Edouard + Olise.

Eze is likely to be a squad player this season, unless he plays as a No8 box-to-box centre mid alongside Gallagher.

Exciting times GF and working out what out strongest line up maybe and importantly how we are set up. Viera has so much variety now than Roy had to choose from.
I think we may see different formation week to week. I hope the players have the footballing nous to do so.......if indeed we go that way.
Personally I might like to drift into that second half of season. The summer transfers met my expectation of player requirements that we have more energy, can pass and hopefully are able to keep fit.
Looking forward to Olisse's development with us and hope that Wilf and Édouard don't out strop each other but take each other to their best

Do you make all this stuff up, or do you discuss it with your mummy on the way to swimming lessons?

It was Eze as a squad player or playing mostly off the bench in another thread that got me raising eyebrows.

I think once Eze is fit to play we will see him. Don't ask me how he will be shoe horned in, but there will be a way. He's a massive player for us that we can't be wasting as a squad man.

We’ve got a decent squad now. It’s hard to play Eze instead of Ayew for example

The preferred system is a 433 with two 8s. Eze will almost certainly get a lot of game time in that role.

There’s no doubt Eze has more potential and raw ability but Ayew has far more experience. That is vital in a young team

That’s quite good but still pretty blatant

Ayew’s goal against West Ham was world class and crucial. We’ve seen Eze do similar things but it was only against Sheffield United
