Everton (home)

-------------------------Guaita--------------------------
Ward-----------Dann-------------Sakho-----------PVA
Townsend-----Milivojevic-------McArthur--------Meyer
-----------------Benteke----------Zaha-----------------

Subs:

Hennessey
Kelly
Schlupp
Kouyate
Dreher
Wickham
Ayew

Too early? Perhaps. However there's not enough time for a player to integrate and get fit for the XI even if we sign someone before the window closes in 10 days. Interested to hear other people's thoughts but these are the close calls as I see it:

Dann or Kelly?
Tomkins won't be ready, so I'd go for Dann. Our back 4 is painfully slow with the departure of AWB so we may as well play Scott for his aerial threat seeing as we will have to defend with a deep line anyway.

McArthur or Kouyate?
Another tight call but I'd go for McArthur as he is slightly better technically and we are at home. But I'd be equally happy with CK if that's what the manager decides.

Meyer or Schlupp?
Max Meyer improved massively towards the end of last season, and has arguably been our best player in pre season so he deserves to start. Schlupp doesn't have the same technical ability. Although JS is the manager's favourite I think he'd be better off the bench, using his pace against tiring defenders. We all know Jeff will start though.

Everton will be a really tough test even with departure of Gueye. Think they will be challenging for 7th place. Would be happy with a point. COYP

This shows how painfully thin our squad is

I would agree with your line-up though

That’s the team I would start with but hopefully we will have a few new options - at least for the bench as that bench looks very limited.

Meyer has to start over Schlupp.

Will Wilf be fit?

Is Sakho up to speed?

They are our best two players but there must be a doubt about both

Wilf is definitely fit - he痴 just played tournament level football. The question will be whether they want to rest him for a game or two. But that would be madness imo as no wilf means we may as well not turn up, especially with the squad in the state it currently is.

Yeah I agree Meyer has to start over schlupp. Has to, alas I fear schlupp might still get the nod

I actually think this squad lends itself to a 4231 as it stands, obviously further additions change that potentially

覧覧覧覧宥uaita
Ward覧優ann覧覧Sakho覧猶va
覧覧-Luka覧覧-jimmy覧覧-
覧Townsend覧Meyer覧-zaha
覧覧覧覧-benteke

Meyer and jimmy being so versatile in midfield allow that to drop to a 433 or even a 451 as the game dictates. Under the cosh and drop back tight hitting on the break

442 fine as you致e said too.

Just for clarity and to summarise Meyer>schlupp this season please. Underwhelmed last season by max, he was ok but clearly adjusting. Something about his demeanour and energy in the preseason... he痴 going to be a different player this season

We've seen a lot worse, but I think I'd go Kelly over Dann these days, although it's a tight call. Probably be both anyway.

Unless we sign a mega mega mega star, which is unlikely, they wont start anyway - its not the way Roy does things

Exactly. If we wanted someone to start at Everton, we'd need to have signed them already to give them time to gel. I'm not usually one for jumping on the no signings panic bandwagon, but considering we lost AWB quite early in the window, it's pretty poor that we haven't at least signed a defender.

I'm hoping for reinforcements but that is still a decent team.

Would imagine this but Kelly in for Sakho. Believe also that Schlupp picked up a knock vs Bristol so may make Roys life easier for him.
