A slightly strange comment. We did our business for the season in the summer. We got who we wanted. January is notoriously bad for getting players. You really only see teams struggling go mad spending loads as they are desperate or the top teams desperate to bin off on loan expensive wages on players who aren’t getting a kick.
We were never going to do much at all this January. I see the sense in making JPM permanent especially for the reported £9m & Plange is one they hope will learn & improve. I fully expect us to go & get another 4-5 new players in the summer which will complete the major overhaul required for getting in younger players. After many years of failure it looks like the club have now got a total plan for each window.

On the face of it he's done unbelievably well to bag himself a long term deal at the club. Apart from scoring against three terrible sides in Brighton, Norwich and Millwall recently he hasn't really done much on the pitch, and if I'm honest I'm still not convinced he'll ever be a top level striker.
Saying that, he's certainly a handful and gives us something a bit different to the statuesque Benteke. He seems well liked by his teammates and the staff have obviously seen something in training that leads them to believe he's starting to fulfil his potential. There's no doubt he's improved over the past month or two, so if he continues in that vein then great. Benteke seems to have fallen right down the pecking order now, and at 31 the club may be thinking it's smarter to invest time and money into a 24-year-old rather than persisting with him. If that's the case it's hard to argue.

They just spend £8m on him. It's reasonable to make a big deal of his permanent signing. And if it helps make him feel important, then surely that's an added benefit?

I suspect that €3 million loan fee was actually his wages for the duration of the loan.

I'm really pleased that he has signed but surprised at the 4.5 year contract. I would have thought 3 years would have suited both clubs. If he does really well he will be stuck on his present wages, if he's a failure it's a long time to keep someone. We've already had that with Jairo.

He works hard and is instantly more likeable than Benteke. I really hope he can knock the serial stroller out of the side for good and we can get rid in the summer. Party time if so. |

Certainly seems more humble after his initial interview where he outlined that we were a mere stepping stone on his journey to his natural higher level.
