I have not seen the incident so won't comment on this particular case but if he has put his arm in a position and the ball has struck it then it might be considered deliberate.
You need to see it first then. I wouldn't have given it either fwiw as you have to jump with your arms. Hand in an unnatural position is the criteria they apply for handball or not.

Handball rule will need serious surgery if VAR is to be fully implemented as it is so grey and open to interpretation. I think it was a pen today, but with the rules as they are it is not a clear and obvious error.
Unless the referee was unsighted originally and had not seen it strike the arm. In that circumstance he cannot give what he did not see, given the opportunity to see it he can then make his call.

I think this was a penalty, his arm was quite a way out from his body. The Handball law is difficult because virtually no-one deliberately seeks to handle the ball to gain an advantage and the law is commonly interpreted as if you could have avoided handling it, and/or if you gain an advantage it is given.

Defender jumped with his arm out for elevation, Ball was headed against his arm

No way a penalty IMO. Only time they get given usually (In the Pl) is for big teams like the wankers when they are struggling

Ref saw it clearly, and signalled it was not a pen at the time

Advocating how great VAR was and that it was a clear penalty

She didn't seem to keen when ONeil disagreed with her

Will be out of the country soon and looking forward to watching matches in one of an inceasing number of countries that offer you the option of watching matches without commentary, just the crowd noises. It's brilliant and should be the norm everywhere.

I've seen Barcelona players trying to chip the ball onto a defenders hand, so that doesn't surprise me one bit drexy.

Personally I think Pengey should have the final word.

When you see a player in the middle of the park mis control the ball, pops up off his shin, onto his hand and back to his feet. Almost every time he is called for handball.

IMO his arm stayed out long after it was needed for elevation, I can see why it was given, I would have understood if it was not. The referee on second view thought he got his original decision wrong - surely it is more than tempting to not over-rule yourself.

Australia have had so much good possession, just too slow with the final ball

Clattenburg would.

You lot still watching ITV will have that to come, I'll warrant.

Don't worry about what happens in the middle of the park, the laws are interpreted differently in the area, for all offenses (wrongly, obviously)

Yup agree with that. A foul in the centre circle should be a foul in the box and vice versa, same for handballs.

Jedinak is such a force of nature. A true leader. Anyone know if he's doing his coaching badges? Normally dont go much for ex players returning as manager, but that would be immense if it comes to pass.
