Correct.

The shadows on the pitch, were offputting..

Lots in Brazil don't. He's not as popular as many assume.

Is incredible that he’s on track to comfortably beat the goal records of Pele, Romario, Ronaldo etc. Surely nowhere near the player that any of them were.

Ronaldo was a much better player. The thing is look at this way. How many players have played 100+ games now?

Yet go back 20 years, 100 caps was a monumental achievement and very rare indeed. They play a lot more International games today than they did back in days when the likes of Pele, Romario and Ronaldo played.

Ronaldo played 98 caps in 17 years (5 - 6 caps per year), Neymar 87 caps in 8 years (10 - 11 caps per year), Romario 70 caps in 18 years!

Just for completeness Pele 92 caps in 14 years. So Neymar is playing double the amount of International games per year than any of those greats. If Ronaldo had been playing 10-11 games a year Neymar wouldn't even get close to him.

Yep, all true. Ronaldo did decline earlier than he should’ve, but even considering that it still surprises me that Neymar’s goal rate is currently the same (according to Wikipedia).

BBC pundits talking about the game as if this was Brazil 82. Thought they were hopeless, against a very poor Costa Rica

Not exactly a likable side either, like lots of previous Brazil teams

Given the option of Ronaldo in his prime or Neymar it wouldn't even come close for me. Ronaldo is the best Centre Forward to ever play football, certainly in my life time.

Ronaldo had two very serious knee injuries. Probably nothing these days but back then they often ended players careers.
