I thought Uruguay was progressively secular, by South American standards, with Cavani somewhat of a frankincense waving exception?

Or was that a whoosh

Of course this won't be easy for France. Argentina's only chance against France was to attack them 'cos of their dodgy defence, and this ploy worked perfectly for the French who have swift counter-attacking players. On the other hand, France are no good against teams that sit back, and this is what the Uruguay team is going to do, even more so with Cavani not playing. Didier Deschamps has changed his formation to a 4-2-3-1 with Griezmann tucked in behind Giroud. Against Peru and then Argentina he played Matuidi on the left-hand side of the three attacking midfieldersto snuff out the threat of the dangerous Peruvian RB and then Messi if Messi picked up the ball quite deep. This obviously worked even though Matuidi is not a left-sided AM. This time Matuidi is suspended, and rather than playing the more attack-minded Lemar or Dembélé or Fekir he's gone for Tolisso who is more of a "box-to-box" midfielder. He's strong in the tackle and can score a goal or two. There are slight concerns over his ability not to lose it or go missing in a big game.
Ideally to avoid a borefest France need to score early to force the Uraguay team to attack more. If Uraguay score early, they'll park the bus and then we'll have to see what Griezmann and Mbappé can pull out.
For me the game changer could still be Fekir who could come off the bench after an hour or so.

He can't possibly be fit. If Uruguay are chasing the game, he'll probably be sent on but he'd be risking a much more serious injury IMO!

Could be more defence than attack today. For a lover of good defending they are great to watch. For those who want lots of goals, not so much i guess. France will test them though.

He really is good him. Laxalt isn't it? Works his bollocks off like every other Uruguay player.

If we sell Townsend he'd be a very good replacement!
