Diving

Is it time to bring in a new penalty card for diving, say a blue card where if one gets penalised 3 times during a game they get sent off.

Diving really is putting off people that have a slight interest in the game from becoming ardent followers of the game. It's the biggest issue non-followers have of football

It's become a real problem and something needs to be done. So hence a suggestion of a blue card.

What do you reckon?

Great to see the Swedish v England game was totally free of this problem, so it's obviously not an instinctive part of the game... yet, but it's in danger of becoming so IMO.

When they see this kind of stuff in N America thats the first thing they talk about and why they do not like "soccer". With VAR you can eradicate it especially with the rolling around in agony time wasting on top...Make them stay of the pitch for ten minutes for treatment.

Dunno about the blue card system but retrospective bookings would be good. Players like Neymar are a disgrace and have no respect for the game, officials or the people that pay good money to watch it.
Need to refrain from stopping the game and play on around the tossers that roll around like bitches as well. The way some act you'd think they'll never walk again.
Think its fair to say its been one of the best world cups ever, but its been another world cup where the same countries continually push the boundaries of both sportsmanship and diving.
Time to crack right down on these players and make their teams pay the price. A dressing room will sort it out quicker than any official.

As Les alludes to, it's not so much the diving at this World Cup, as the over reaction to contact that gets my goat.

I believe we are seeing a lot less actual "no/minimal contact" diving.

I've often thought post-game review and red cards for simulation would be the way to go. You may not change the result, but with stiff enough penalties, you're bound to cut down pretty heavily. That might be less effective in the World Cup given the brevity of the competition and the risk/reward inherent in the choice, but using it in club competition would eventually help change the culture of diving.

If you take Neymar, who is the poster child for simulation at this World Cup, a lot of teams were kicking him from the off, basically daring the ref to slow down/impact the game with a string of fouls/bookings, which referees are usually reluctant to do. And with the way things are, if Neymar doesn't act, just like we've seen with opposing teams targeting Zaha and not being punished, the ****ers can and do get away with it.

I've been shocked by the amount of fouling in the box during the World Cup. The teams doing it must be stupid given the hard stance the refs have taken and the amount of penalties given. Same goes for diving - don't they realise there are cameras everywhere?!

Going forward, players need to behave better and refs need to clamp down on it while also realising the difference between an accidental fall, a jump to avoid being clattered and an intentional attempt to deceive.

Yep. In fairness, the Premier League have implemented something like this but it’s a bit weak at the moment.

Does anyone know if those columbian players who scuffed up the penalty spot for kanes penalty were Punished retrospectively?

To the original post - absolutely not. I don’t get why you would want to give a player effectively 2 free goes at diving?

I agree with your point though - this stuff does need eradicating. I just think the idea of ‘3 and out’ would actually encourage rather than discourage. Real and harsh retrospective action should be the way to go imo.

Always amused and irritated my late mother in equal measure. She was a radiographer so dealt with a lot of injured amateur sportsman/women.. in her experience when people were really hurt they stayed very still. Its gone beyond getting an undeserved free kick. The scumbags want opponents sent off as well. Thats what stinks

They should introduce a Green Card for diving. Having been shown it, no foul can be given against the player for 5mins following. That would give Neymar et al something to actually roll around for.

Make it rest of the game and it is the perfect solution, no physio can assist and they can be left with a broken leg in the centre circle for 40 minutes.

This or just retrospective post match fines for players that dive. Starting hitting them (the players directly rather than the club) for percentage based fines for each incident and they'll soon cut it out.

Stick the money straight back into grass roots football.
