There are some players who are just injury prone, ie many seemingly unconnected injuries. Wilshere and wickham come to mind. Hopefully this lad doesnt fall into the same category

Yep.

Not knocking Ferguson at all but at this point there must be concerns that he could simply be a very injury prone player. It may just be a run of bad, luck which doesn't affect the rest of his career but it may be a sign of a future career that will be blighted by injury.

Thanks. I probably avoided the Mail at the time and didnít see that one albeit looks like a report rather than anything official. It doesnít tie up too well with the reports that WBA had been risking his career by playing him (which always sounded flaky to me because why would any club risk an asset in todayís environment). But TBH a torn meniscus with modern day, professional football medical care wouldnít have kept him out long and certainly not over the Summer with such a long rehab. Wasnít the op in February? The expectations were never that he would have done a full pre-season so there has to be more to the original injury than a torn meniscus. Isnít it 4-6 weeks for pro sports treatment these days with full movement after first few weeks. In Basketball itís usually one month, max two out and thatís really tough on the knees.

It doesnít matter now, itís just intriguing.

What matters now is when he will be back and he looks from the insta to be doing basic straight line outdoor running work on his own with a trainer. They wonít be rushing him now after this length of time but maybe he will squeeze in some U23 time before Xmas? Just be great to see him worrying about points rather than recovery with that big smile of his.

Out of interest, what qualifications do you have to be able to comment on training methods and sports science?

I think it depends if itís a bit of a cleanup or repairing a tear. A tear is more like months but it certainly seemed like his recovery was longer than normal.

I think that was the root of the difference of opinion between us and WBA, plus, if he was unavailable for the rest of the season regardless (and presuming he had agreed to come if his contract expired) why buy in January for however many million when he comes for a tribunal decision in July?

Firstly I wish Nathan Ferguson well with this weeks op and post recovery. He has had it very rough recently to say the very least!

Seems we still see something in this lad worth investing in. Lets hope he can recover and make something of himself hopefully with Palace.

The "qualification" of knowing people that had been to the training ground on a regular basis and said training under Hodgson used to consist of 2 hours each day, followed by the occasional warm down at David Lloyd, Beckenham and every Wednesday off. Is that qualified enough?

Do you need qualifications to allow you to comment on various subjects?
If that was the case there would be no BBS.

Except Wickham went to Preston and tore his hamstring instantly. So I don't quite think so. The other players who were injury prone were 30 or over.

? Doesnt that prove my point, ie another unconnected injury? Or did he have hamstring problem when he left?

Yes, it's not Iain Dowie's famous theory of the training pitch being on a slight incline/slope. Some players are just crocks, Wickham is one of them.

I think he had all kinds of problems all over when he left to be honest.

I'd suggest you need something more than an 'opinion' to comment with any knowledge on training and sports science if you are questioning the methods of someone who has been a coach/manager for 40 odd years or someone who is medically trained.

Better than a warm down at the local Dog and Whistle.

Other clubs that may need to look at their training methods:

Everton currently 8 injuries
Leeds 7
Villa 7
Liverpool, Man City, Newcastle 6 each

Fortunately we are only have 2 at present.
