Chris Armstrong

yes, another ex-player, and although a striker is not a priority, I think he'd be a good signing, as he was brilliant the last time he played under Smith, and he still scores some great goals for Spurs. He wants to leave there cos the crowd gave him a hard-time, every time he scores he turns his back on them.

If for some reason Clinton does leave, (whats the point, he'll be worth 6m in 2 years), then I think Armstrong would be a great replacement. A calm finisher, and he scores some classics as well.

By the way, where is Paul Williams now? :O)

on his day chris armstrong was great, but too often he just ran around sometimes not even that his last season was very poor he was one of reasons we went down, backwards step.

After telling Palace fans to F**k off last time he played for us after the West Ham game, would you want him back? No thanks

Spurs are prepared to let him go for 2.5million. The clowns are interested apparently.

Why do we want every ex-player back ?

Saying that though he might be a good signing.

Whats the history like on players that leave then come back? I only seem to recall Andy Gray

Chris Armstrong couldn't be bothered at the end of his time with us. Bollox to him. I wish we didn't have so many players who leave us on bad terms. Its their fault most of the time - not ours.

I've got a feeling that Jansen and Souness wont get on this season. A snip at 3m in Januray?

You've got to weigh it up though haven't you. Yes he had a go at the Arthur v. West Ham and thats a bad thing. But then he had just scored the only goal of the game, and given us slight hope, and thats a good thing. He's a bit of a prat. He kissed his shirt v. Arsenal, and swore at us v. West Ham, but that was a time ago now, and the bottom line is, we know he can win us games, and if he's prepared to come back and behave then I think we should give him credit for learning his lesson. However, after the way he finished last season I am surprised that Spurs want rid of him, and I certainly can't see him dropping a division.

No thank you.

Even though I don't live down there anymore the thought of his coco-pop nose appearing on "London Tonight" fills me with horror.

Let him rot in N17 licking Rebrov's boots.

I can't see him coming back under Smith anyway. From what I remember during the time of his little cannabis problem, the FA and Armstrong were quite happy to cover it up and say he was injured for a month, not suspended, but Smith decided to blab to the papers.

I reckon Smith thought Armstrong was going to bang in 20 league goals that season and probably held him responsible for that goal drought in the middle of the season - and therefore for his own job. Not very mature - though perhaps understandable

Chris Armstrong was tracked by Portsmouth boss Tony Pulis earlier this week. Armstrong didn't want to go though as he doesn't like the south coast apparently. Whether that was a cover-up for not wishing to drop a division is hard to say, but if it's the case then he won't want to come back to CPFC.

I'm interested in the large amount of (wishful) speculation linking ex-Palace stars with returns. As someone mentioned, in many cases players leave on bad terms and it's probably best for all concerned that they don't return. Admittedly Andy Gray is the exception to this to a degree re. his 1989 return, but even that went sour by 1992 and he must be the only player to leave TWICE under a cloud!!

Arsmtrong was great for two seasons and poor for the last, but even in that season he banged in 18 goals (10 in cup games) which is hardly disastrous.

When Clinton bangs in 15 goals we're (me very much included) raving about him like he's the next Ian Wright (which he might indeed turn out to be) so as much as Armstrong upset sections of the crowd including myself, he was a pretty good player for us in the overall scheme of things.

However, would he really be the player for us? We need players on their way up who are hungry for success like (in theory) Black, Forsell and Gray, not players who've seen the bright lights and won't necessarily raise themselves in the Div 1 surroundings of Selhurst Park (Padavano being the major example of this.)

Armstoned was a bloodly good player under smith,i would love to see him back at palace for a resonable fee, loved that goal he stuck in the stanchion against wolves a few years back, ok he had some bad spells, a good sell at 4.5 million shame he was injured for so

Grim is right. Every time there is speculation about ex Palace players becoming available we think they are automatically going to solve our problems by returning . I would like to find out how many players return to their former clubs and are still a success, the only one that springs to mind is Rush at Liverpool. Any other stand outs?

10 cup goals, but I think you'll find only 3 league goals, not to mention telling the Sainsburys & Arthur Wait Stand to f**k off when he scored against West Ham at the end of the season, miserable tosser who was great for 2 seasons but I don't want him or any other ex-Palace players back.

Lets look forward and find 'new' faces to cheer and look forward to seeing on a saturday afternoon.

One request though Mr Smith & Mr Jordan, don't sign any foreigners!!
