Any attitude problems Wilf might of had this in the summer were down to Pearce playing him out of position.

Disagree, if anything the move made him play worse until last few games of the season, maybe if we didn't give him the move he's have kept us in auto places single handedly. We will never know

There is no doubt that Wilf's value after this season will be a cricket score. I have always thought that we should have had him for one more year had we got promoted and let him go if we didn't. A year trying to keep us up and testing himself against the best defences would have been just as good for his development as trying to break in the MoanU side. He is only 20 after all and his value will be off the scale after this season, i think we cracked too early and him not being with us this year could easily cost us 60M for us not staying up and another 20M on his transfer value.
There are some very average players going for 10M, Wilf once a regular in the England side will be worth as much as any English player if not a hell of a lot more.

Probably.

However, if we still had him he wouldn't be getting call-ups to the England squad with anything of the regularity he can now expect as a Man U player unfortunately. Yet another reason why turning down a perfectly decent offer for him would have been a bad move for us as a club.

Zaha in England recall the moment he puts on United shirt shocker

Really proving himself to be international class since joining the mighty Reds.
His imperious Championsip performances were nice and all that but how about his form against Malaysian XIs hey! Now he's made it

(Not doubting he was shite after his cap for a few months but still)

I honestly can't see him not going.

England are crying out for some genuine creativity in wide area's. Actually, scrap that. They are crying out for genuine creativity period. I'd be very suprised if he isn't in the squad come May, providing he plays alot for United this season.

Disagree - If we had blocked the move wilf wouldnt have been the player he was for us in the end. And we might not be here - we played it all perfectly. Got loads of cash, kept him for the season, and got promoted. We played a blinder. No doubt if we had managed all that without selling him and sold him next summer - everybody would be saying. Why not keep him one more year....etc.

Think that Williams, Alassani would never sign another contract with us, after blocking the dream move for Wilf. We have a duty to the players we bring through. When the biggest clubs in the world come calling, you dont stand a chance, it's about getting the best deal. Even Arsenal bailed when ManU got interested in zaha - they couldnt compete.

Look at Spurs.... they dont stand a chance of keeping Bale. " but if we keep him one more year we'll be in the Champions League" If they keep an unhappy Bale they wont make the Champions League. Real Madrid are cherry picking them just like they did with Modric. They'll get their man - eventually.

And I think he will play a lot. It's a squad game when you're looking at 50+ games a season, so expect him to play (not necessarily start) at least 30 games this season.

If he scores a few goals for Utd, even better for his prospects at the World Cup. Form and injuries have an effect, but I would imagine the England squad forwards will include Rooney as a certainty, Carroll if he has a good season for W Ham +2 others, who will come from a list of Walcott, Welbeck, Bent (!), Defoe (unlikely after Spurs have signed Soldado as their main man), Oxlade-Chamberlain (if picked as a forward not a midfielder) and Wilf.

I can't see Welbeck getting more goals than Wilf, so he gets the nod over him imo. Oxlade-Chamberlain would appear to be his main rival - in terms of similarity and ability - for a World Cup squad place. Hodgson likes The Ox, so that may be a difficult one to win, but I think it's a similar dilemma to previous Wright-Phillips v Lennon for the Right Wing, then Lennon v Walcott Right Wing slots debates of previous years.

Ironically, Arsenal need Oxlade-Chamberlain more than Utd need Wilf, but I think it will be Wilf who sees more action and performs better, statistically.

Long term, as hard as it is to chew, I think selling Wilf was the right move.

Putting aside short term factors such as the need for the club, as a Championship entity to generate regular cashflow through the sale of assets, the long term view is that the success of the academy is about producing players that play 100+ games for Palace and then move on to bigger and better things.

As much as it may leave a sour taste in the mouths of some fans, we are not a big club. We are not in the top 20 biggest clubs in the country - although currently our Premier status says differently.

Therefore players will want to move on to bigger things. There is (objectively speaking) no bigger thing in this country than Manchester United.

Moses, Wilf and Clyne demonstrate that Palace players are able to develop and then move on and play at the highest level. This will be of enormous benefit to our academy in terms of player recruitment.
