Obama is part of the corporate donor show though isn’t he. My opinion is worth zilch but it sounds to me that a vote for Biden is a vote for no change. Clinton says she’s under pressure to run. She’s already lost once to a reality show clown!

I just think it is a bridge too far to cross for most American voters... they are feed stories of inefficiencies and poor service that comes with socialized medicine (their words not mine). They fear the poor and illegals will monopolize the system and bring it to the point were it caters to the lowest denominator and diluting the health care of the middle class and above.

I'll give you an example of the current situation... I spent 24 hours in a hospital recently. I had a CT scan and an series of X-Rays. So far I have been billed for the CT lab, the doctor reading the CT scan, ditto the X-Ray Lab and Doctor. The hospital stay was billed to my insurance company for just shy of $16,000. After insurance adjustments I was billed for approx $4,500.

My insurance is $915 a month (a Bronze plan that would be double that if I went with a Silver or Gold plan (lower deductibles)). This is going up to $980+ a month next year (a 7.5% raise). My plan has a $7,500 deductible, hence the $4,500 bill to me. Without the insurance adjustment I would have been responsible for the full $16,000 so I guess it has paid for itself.

I could go on, but I think you get the picture, and why I believe American's have their head in the sand when it comes to health care. But apparently they prefer the status quo to change.

Without going on too much, I should add that it was tough actually getting insurance for myself as an individual. Very few companies are offering individual health insurance in California... apparently it is a loss maker for them, hence the high premiums. I had a very limited choice.

Roll on being 65 when I can get Medicare and a supplemental insurance that is not a budget breaker.

That’s fuvkin insane. I read somewhere that, over 600,000 people go bankrupt every year due to medical bills in the USA.

Correction Clinton won the popular vote, Trump got in because of their daft college system.

What are they afraid of? They pay through the nose and then ( if the insurance companies are the same as other insurance companies ) will have to fight to get them to pay.

Over simplified, but basically big government (big brother), taxes (paying them) and communism (socialism).

At a more ground level, they fear loss of freedom of choice, delays in seeing specialist, and loss of quality care diluted by quantity of care.

It's all part of the media propaganda, they take the single worst example of a medical disaster that has ever happened (of the NHS in most cases) and run it into the ground. They and (mostly) Republicans talk about death panels incessantly.

I live in Japan right now which has a universal healthcare system. Since I'm technically a student, I use the National Health Insurance and I end up paying about $250 a year. I then pay 30% of any health care costs but I still end up way ahead because healthcare costs here are waaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than the US. For example, I sliced open my hand and needed stitches. Between the original visit and 10 subsequent visits to get new bandages and check on the stitches, the total was $75. In the US, I'd probably be looking at 10 times that amount, not to mention my insurance would be around $800 something per month.

I went to the hospital for these stitches and that is a normal thing here, but you end up battling for doctor time with every senior citizen in the neighborhood. They do have private clinics, if you prefer, that are not as busy but charge more. I went to one for a respiratory infection and the visit cost me $50 but then again the weeks' worth of drugs only cost me $6, so I was still happy.
