I used my iPhone 6 for 7 years without any real problem - replaced the battery once.
My iPad is from Jurassic Park (2013 I think) and is just about kaputt. Only a handful of apps still work and the screen has dead areas especially round the edges. I only really use it for reading documents and books and it's still useable for that.
Current phone is a 13 and expect to get similar life as the 6.

I can’t even remember what model my iPad is, but I know it’s incredibly old. In truth, it’s mainly used for watching Netflix etc and was never really used for much. It must be 7-8 years old and is still spot on in truth. I would assume had I used it over the years like a traditional iPhone it wouldn’t have held up half as long. I think I paid about £400 for it at the time on a contract with Vodafone and it’s been more than worth the money.

I had a bit of a clear out of the apps on my old 1st generation iPad during the week. Ended up with about 15 left on there.

Seems like most apps these days require iOS 14 or later, and my iPad will not update past iOS 12. Even when updating apps says about reverting to an old version it won't update.

Feels like it's all a bit of a Catch 22.

Most times I go to use the iPad these days the battery is flat anyway. Seems to be going the way of the iPod.

I got my wife an iPhone 15 for Christmas. We both had 8's.

Quite a big change in operating/access etc.. A lot of years of muscle memory to overcome when using.

After setting it all up for her today, I think I like it, and now want one for myself.

I went from a 6s plus to a 12 about 3 years ago, seemed like a big change in how to use it but most things became second nature within a a few days.

Yes, I spent about 2 or 3 hours on her new phone last night, and when I went to use my old 8 today I was doing some swiping that is used on the 15.

When printing a document from my iPhone or iPad via WiFi to the printer it always defaults to the 6" x 4" paper size photo paper.

You have to change the option to "Legal Size" every time you print something. (No option for 8 x 11.5 (US equivalent of A4)).

Pretty sure in the past I found a setting where you could define the defaults, but damn if I can find it. Google has been no help either.

Anyone?

To answer my own question I figured it out after a lot of Googling.

The problem setting is in the printer itself, not the iPhone. I got a new printer last week, which is why the sudden change. The setting for the tray for regular paper was A4, when in fact here it needed to be 8 x 11.5 which was an option on the printer setting.

All fixed now. See, even a monkey left along long enough could write Shakespeare... as they say.

The evidence isn't great so far...

In 2002,lecturers and students from the University of Plymouth MediaLab Arts course used a £2,000 grant from the Arts Council to study the literary output of real monkeys. They left a computer keyboard in the enclosure of six Celebes crested macaques in Paignton Zoo in Devon, England from May 1 to June 22, with a radio link to broadcast the results on a website.

Not only did the monkeys produce nothing but five total pages largely consisting of the letter "S", the lead male began striking the keyboard with a stone, and other monkeys followed by urinating and defecating on the machine.[

Did they refer to the ‘lead male’ as ‘cockneyrebel’?

Sounds like a lecture at the University of Central Lancashire.

Haveing huge problems with the latest update I can’t sync my phone and Mac even though they both have the latest versions. I’ve done all the restarts and cable swaps and port swaps and spent ages. I fking hate updates for some stupid emojis and stickers that I will never use
