Dogtooth - Now, not quite sure what to make of this film.
On one hand, during much of the film nothing really happens and you could say it's just a slice of someone's life. On the other hand, there are some deeply troubling scenes that will upset a fair few people. Very odd, but the sort of film that you think about for a while after. Score .... no idea, yet. |

Movie review thread(about the last film you saw)
A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Reflecting On Existence(2014)
A slow, bizarre Swedish film shot mostly in washed out colour. It’s about the human condition and is by turns funny, surreal or dark. Occasionally repetitive but it generally works. 6.5/10

A Quiet Place - A survival horror film without much spoken dialogue so watching it is quite a different experience to the usual. Some good tense moments and sets up nicely for the second film which I believe was is now out. Decent, but I couldn’t help thinking some of the slightly unwise choices made by the characters in the film let it down a little. 7/10.

Nice one Bert’s head! Yes, it is more than a little slow in the build up, but definitely the pay-off is worth it! Have you seen the film Hereditary by same director, again big build up, but more scares! To be honest I hate cgi do any director than seems to minimalist it’s use in horror films is great!

Love Midsommar. Not sure it’s a horror film as such but brilliantly creepy and unsettling. Ari Aster has a real talent for setting a scene with a unspecific weird and wrong feel to it, Hereditary was also very good. Slow burning creepiness with mental twists and the occasional flash of extreme shocking violence.
Florence Pugh is a real talent, love that she often plays slightly dumpy ordinary girl next door types rather than the standard Hollywood princess.

Watched "Blanche Fury" today. Starring Stewart Granger and Valerie Hobson, it was surprisingly good. A bit of a Gothic melodrama - a real gem from the 1940s. Well worth finding and watching.
Then watched Sword of Sherwood Forest. Starring Richard Greene reprising his TV role as Robin Hood, Peter Cushing as the Sheriff of Nottingham and a very camp early appearance from Oliver Reed, it was a bit of escapism that was fun - particularly if you remember the TV show.

Torn Curtain(1966)
A slow burning Hitchcock spy thriller with some decent set pieces and one brilliant one. Hitch wasn’t happy having to work with Paul Newman and Julie Andrews but both are pretty good. Wolfgang Kieling is a memorable villain. 7.5/10
