Great idea, but in view of the latest club accounts maybe the fans should crowd fund it (bearing in mind the vast majority who remember her are us wealthy "Baby Boomers" . It would be a fitting tribute.

One of my most vivid memories of her are with the large wicker basket as mentioned by "In Exile"

Maybe the Claret and Blue box came later ?

I also recall watching the young kids at the front playing hit the coppers helmet. In those far off days the old bill used to wander around the cinder track that was in front of the perimeter fence just before the pitch edge. As the coppers walk past they used to chuck the unopened shells at the coppers back trying to hit their helmets. Happy days

This is a cine film a friend of mine took in 1979. If you go to 2:56 you will see moving footage of the lady in question.

Nope but always purchased a bag of nuts sometimes two if the upcoming match was going to be stressful, better than biting the fingernails. Still keep a bag of roasted nuts in their shells in the house and take a few to home games.

Nostalgia is so much part of the game. Percy Dalton's pre game, cup of Bovril at half time and a hot dog with onions on the way home.

Perhaps this depends on how far back your memories go? My first games going to Selhurst Park were between 1970-73, I only went a handful of times and in either the Old or New Stand seats - but from the 1973/74 season, I started going much more frequently and usually stood in the Whitehorse, despite Big Mal changing the club’s colours, I distinctly remember that Claret & Blue box and other daft things such as the half-time entertainment which sometimes used to include a cabaret singer or on occasion a huge American college band, much to the derision of many of the fans around me, particularly the older ones, who used to absolutely rip the piss out of it - my introduction to Palace ‘terrace humour’ stood me in good stead from the age of about 10, when I realised that most Palace fans didn’t take anything too seriously!

In the video link it was interesting to see the old boy (st Johns first aid bloke ) who was at most games. He would have struggled to carry a stretcher, i doubt if he was five feet tall.

Shame to find out that she was mugged though...bastards.

By the time she got to the Whitehorse terrace most of the nuts were crap.

No room for the likes of Mrs Minchella, cigar smoke or any of that in these sterile and commercial football days....
