What I'm saying and I will give some very decent argument that times have changed very quickly on this subject. Sure 2001 is recent times, but the mood has changed so much in such a short period.

I'm not condoning this in any way shape or form, but if you applied these times again back to the 60's and 70's you would probably have to charge 70pct plus of the male population. So we've gone from that excess to these times....

On that note I give you this....Might as well charge every single rock star from that generation you can think of.

I can also go on and on about 21 year olds pluses taking 14 year olds out and about in their Zephyrs and Zodiacs all over London, without anyone batting an eyelid. Right up to the school gate. Happened everywhere, openly with everyones knowledge including parents and teachers.... It really did.

Although they weren't called Children then, they were more likely to be known as forwards or Mature.
You’re saying 60-70% of men in the 70s sexually assaulted teenage girls?

Also I wouldn’t call sexual assault “excess”.

The court papers says she was 17.

I think he is saying that the climate is very different now. I do know it was hard to get close to most of the girls in your class, because lots of them were going out with a 'Kev', who had his own car and money from his job at the post office or factory apprenticeship. It really was a thing. And Oz is right - nobody batted an eyelid.

Yeah, I get it. I remember all the girls in class were getting nailed by older blokes, but the blokes were 18-20, to be fair, vexatious though it was.

This was still common when I was at secondary school until 2004. Not all, but a lot of the girls who were 13-15 were going out with guys who had left school, had a car, etc. I thought it was a bit weird even then. I can remember asking one girl what she was up to after school that evening, and she told me she was babysitting her boyfriend's kid as he was going out with his mates. WTF!

Back in the late 80’s, my female mates at 14/15 would go to bars, clubs, pubs and often have their wicked way with adult men in 20’s/30’s. Didn’t really think it was weird. Just jealous as there was no chance in hell me pulling an older girl at that point.

Guessing now I’m heading towards my 50’s this would be a bit easier.

But it should have. 13 to 15 you cannot give consent, but it was.still a.crime that was.enforced in some cases. Just because society turned.a.blind eye to child sex offenders doesn't give.people a pass. They were adult men who knew.the.law and broke it anyhow.

Yeah things have improved.

But firstly the alleged assault was 2001 and secondly it was an alleged assault and hanging around with a serial child abuser.

Oh how I wish PK could come back for just one post. He would have loved this and spat the most vitriolic post ever. I wouldn’t have agreed with it but I’m sure it would have been a thing of beauty

Yes it definitely was a crime and no one should get a pass but as you can see it was the norm for older blokes to go out with younger girls.

I just asked my wife who is five years younger than me (piss off I met her when she was 25) she said the same at her school from 15 years up the girls were not interested in spotty immature oinks of their own age who's main mode of transport was a bus or a bike.

I don't know how many times as a kid we tried to get into clubs or pubs thinking a bit of bum fluff on our chin would get us in yet most of the girls had no problems at all.

I'm probably as guilty as any male who was a 17-20 year old in the 70's, but if we are still talking about Prince Andrew, I think this is a different kettle of fish.

Without reading the whole thread, what is he accused of? If he was 30 something and married at the time (not that that is relevant), then I say hang him from the highest rafter.

While not sticking up for the sleaze bag that is Prince Andrew. Heard a good story once. You are totally right as I remember from my youth Les. But I new then as everyone does the age of consent was 16. I am not sure many of the girls of my age went the whole hog anyway.

Well I read the BBC report, and it all seems pretty tame. Immature and stupid, but not sure there is a story there.

Seems to be "inappropriate behavior, and touching". I've not found any accusations of sexual intercourse being the issue.

Not right, but as I said above... immature and stupid.

Happened to the girls in the typing school at Morgan Guaranty in 1970 .... Straight out of school at 16 and chased and captured by lots of married blokes, it was like a challenge as to who could get to them first. I stood no chance as a 16 year old in 71 of pulling a girl at work in that climate.

This would have happened all over the country.

Very different times and the legacy lived on for quite a while right up until the early 2000's by the looks.

Then social media came along, combined it with all sorts of tales of excess and suddenly we had a completely new outlook, almost overnight. Twas a very radical change..... especially from where it was in the early 70's.

If you were to watch pretty much any UK TV show from the 70s, it would give anyone with 2019 sensibilities complete apoplexy.

It was a different era and frankly, we're better off having moved on but you can't deny the attitudes that were then.

In many ways it seemed quite harmless at the time but people used to smoke too and not worry about it so wtf?
