Most consistenly valuable player over the last few years? Definitely in that discussion - he's been a trojan since joining us.

He's here, he's there he's every f****** where.

Yesterday's match puts him into the Top 5 of the list of top flight league appearances for Palace. There's 3 current players in the top 5 who should climb higher up the list this season. As of yesterday ...

1. Nigel MARTYN: 180 (0)
2. Joel WARD: 174 (1)
3. John JACKSON: 164 (0)
4. Wilfried ZAHA: 156 (15)
5. James McARTHUR: 149 (18)
6. Mel BLYTH: 149 (2)
7. Tony TAYLOR: 147 (3)
8. Richard SHAW: 138 (3)
9. David PAYNE: 138 (1)
10. Jason PUNCHEON: 132 (21)

(I understand that some people calculate appearance records with starts & substitute appearances added together equally which would put Wilf & Jimmy 3rd & 4th above John Jackson. Personally I think that with the advent of multiple substitutes, when half of the subs are only brought on in the final few minutes to run the clock down, appearances in the starting XI should take precedence)

Proper Palace player. Great value, great servant. Looked very comfortable playing the central, deeper 'Luca' type role yesterday.

To be fair, Wright only played the equivalent of 2 seasons in the top flight for us and is 3rd top scorer although Luka is closing in and should overtake him this season. Andy Johnson's goals per game ratio for a player with a decent total looks insurmountable.

39 : Mark BRIGHT; 112 (3)
32 : Wilfried ZAHA; 156 (15)
28 : Ian WRIGHT; 71 (1)
25 : Luka MILIVOJEVIC; 94 (1)
24 : Gerry QUEEN; 101 (7)
23 : Chris ARMSTRONG; 75 (0)
21 : Andy JOHNSON; 37 (0)
19 : Christian BENTEKE; 71 (19)
17 : James McARTHUR; 149 (18)
15 : Dwight GAYLE; 27 (37)
15 : Geoff THOMAS; 129 (3)
15 : Jason PUNCHEON; 132 (21)

Anyone else think it's kind of cute the way McCarthy always calls him "Jamesy"?

Fvcking immense today. There was a period at the start of the second half where he genuinely looked like Iniesta or Modric, a player of that calibre. Always works hard, but sometimes he’s really classy, particularly his close control.
