Having been lucky enough to have been at the Oval for his 291, I agree that it's hard to look past IVA Richards. Honourable mentions for Robin Smith and Derek Randall....

I revered the Boys from '66. I saw England train a couple of years after and got all the aurtographs. They were gods. Moore. Charlton R and Banks particularly.

Semi-interesting story - when I was a kid going to a Glamorgan one day game I was mulling around aimlessly and got bumped into by a hurried looking Viv rushing into the ground with his kit bag after the toss had already been done.

Cricket: Barry Richards with the bat and Andy Roberts with the ball.
Football: a few years back I used to love watching Thomas Mueller. couldn’t tackle, couldn’t dribble, no pace and not much good in the air. He jogged around with his shirt out and his socks rolled down and looked like someone’s mate who got a game because a player phoned in sick. Yet he was always in the right place at the right and made the right decisions with deadly effect.

I hate to admit it but as this is from a “rival” team, I think Knockhart is gravy. Would love to see him in a Palace shirt one day.

Excuse me whilst I go and vomit.

I used to like Ed de Goey (sp) the old Chelsea goalkeeper... just because at Selhurst he was warming up, and every time a ball went in to the crowd, he said “Thank You” when someone threw it back. Every single time!

He’s also bang average? That’s not me hating on Brighton for the sake of it, he’s genuinely a mediocre player. Weird choice.

It was before that game, when Palace weren't on the telly.
