Probably lined up as a Zaha replacement if he ends up leaving at the end of the window. Need to have contingencies in place.

Re Ismaïla Sarr: understand Crystal Palace are interested but unlikely to make a move unless Zaha leaves. Senegal forward is also wanted by Watford

Rubbish strategy if true. Basically its let's wait until we sell Zaha and pay through the nose for his replacement rather than buying a player who will enhance our team anyway relatively cheap now.

Has Aarons mentioned if we’re looking at other players?

Presumably they see a different sort of player - probably an out and out striker and a right back - as our more important and intend to use the funds for them.

We’ve never going to show are hand.
By letting the market know Zahas transfer has fallen though it’ll mean they think we have less cash. Which is exactly what we want.

Unless we sold Wilf and given the other priorities we won't be spending £30m++ on a winger just now.

Fair points all, but I still think pre-emptively replacing Wilf provides better value than a striker, RB etc. If we're trying to fool the market fair play. I'd like to think Parish is that savvy.

We don't need these fancy dans. Just give us good, honest pros pushing 30 like McCarthy and Clark.

£30 million isn't "relatively cheap" for us.

Palace interest mentioned in this article from The Athletic, but predicated on Wilf leaving:

For those outside of the paywall:

"Sarr had to concede defeat to the golden boy of French football, Kylian Mbappe, who won the young player award for a third year in a row and also picked up the main award. But Sarr has beaten Mbappe at one thing: winning penalties. Since his debut in 2016 he has won nine, Mbappe has eight and Nicolas Pepe seven. A player with a knack of drawing a foul in the box would go down well with Watford fans, who have enviously watched Crystal Palace and Bournemouth top the penalty charts in recent years. It is little wonder Palace would be interested in Sarr if Wilfried Zaha joins Arsenal."

Off to Watford. Great signing by them:

Ismaila Sarr will finally be Watford bound, L'Equipe reports. The Rennes winger is set to move for €30m (+€5m bonus) if terms can be agreed in a meeting between the clubs in Rome today.

I haven't understood the puns on the last couple of pages. Are they from Queen's earlier heavier stuff - they seem much more angry?

We still need at least one more player like this in the squad, with Wilf.

Signing Townsend before selling Bolasie was clearly the right way to do it.

Selling a player for big money and then signing his replacement means you end up swapping Torres for Carroll with a few quid left to show for it.

Yes - but like with Maxim who is costing around £20m, a club of our size can't afford this sort of money for a bench player - or is Wilf now not first name on the team sheet?
