Thanks, appreciated. Everyone is perfectly safe; this is not a Croydon 2011 style riot. Not one instance of looting. Nobody trying to kill anyone (yet). Many police officers agree with the protesters but have to follow orders, and the force has been hung out to dry by the government. Protesters routinely do stuff like the below that would never, ever happen in the UK, for example:

T8 been here all day, a bit blowy. Hasn't prevented 1000 odd people gathering outside the courts where the arrested protesters are being charged. There seems to have been some concession as half of them have been granted bail.

To view the link you have to Register or Login. The police literally report into the Chief Excutive's office, but the police association appear to be directing the government that HK's 2nd in command to Carrie Lam (Matthew Cheung, Chief Secretary) cannot apologise for the police's behaviour - which he already very publicly did. So that's ok then.

Meanwhile triads nonchalantly launch fireworks (which are illegal in HK) at protesters outside another police station (Tin Shui Wai) injuring seven. Police and government have made no comment or made any moves to arrest the perpetrators (despite the car registration being clear as day).

They do exist, but there has been nothing from them until To view the link you have to Register or Login.

Edit: The government is not happy with the ICAC as they have been adamant no independent inquiry was necessary. More evidence of their impotence. The government, and the police, ought to be glad there's an independent inquiry as this will surely clear them of all wrong-doing?

PLA HK garrison video just released. Notice the red "stop charging or we fire" signs being held up by HK police in the middle which have been a constant during the protests (usually preceding the police firing in the crowds with nobody "charging"). Message would seem to be they're ready to step in and kill people.

The Chinese title of the video reads "PLA HK garrison promo video with a clear message"

No worries. Next up planned protest is Mong Kok on Saturday. Awaiting news whether the police will object to a peaceful assembly, which was their tactic last weekend (with no legal basis behind it).

It isn't clear at all, politically, morally or any other -ally why Carrie Lam doesn't formally withdraw the extradition bill that kicked off this mess in the first place, given she has said before it is "dead", but refused to declare it withdrawn. People are going to get killed if this continues to escalate, whether it be police, protesters or bystanders, and they won't be to blame for the underlying situation. At the very least withdrawing the bill might begin to de-escalate tensions and avoid unnecessary deaths.

There were some violent clashes with police in the small hours this morning in Sha Tin (close to my son's school), after police broke into a warehouse and seized containers full of empty beer bottles, which they have claimed are petrol bombs, amusingly.

Police being filmed on live TV arresting residents in their own buildings for "unlawful assembly" whilst the British HKPF chief superindendent Rupert Dover is filmed telling his officers to arrest anyone they can (including innocent bystanders and tourists).

Meanwhile the Chief Executive of HK has not been seen in public nor made a public statement in 2 weeks.
