We saw glimpses of this on Saturday. Is it possible that a long injury in your mid to late twenties can prolong your career as it gives your body a break and defers burn out of your knees and other parts of your legs?

Could you actually provide them please? Because I thought I quoted all of his comments.

I was in favour of getting him, and thought Ayew and Cahill were bad buys so probably need to be ignored.
On Saturday, of our central midfielders he had the best pass completion, also attempted more passes than Kouyate. No-one made more tackles than him, joint with Ward and Ayew and all 3 CMs made 1 intercpetion.

McArthur was by far the busiest of our CMs and with the 2 week break should be starting against Man City but i think it is a real toss up between Kouyate and McCarthy as to who should give way (assuming someone does) to Luka. I would be tempted to keep McCarthy in as long as he came through the 80 without issue.

Depends on th einjuries would be my guess. The fact his was a leg break rather than a ligament/muscle injury might mean he can play a bit longer into his 30s but that is guesswork.

An enforced break can be good for the body, but also for the mind in terms of maturing and desire.

I have said it before Micheal Hughes played his best football of his career for us well into his 30s.

I am convinced the enforced break in his career made him realize how lucky it is to be a footballer and also gave him perspective on professional football itself.

He came back with hunger, fitness extended and better reading of the game.

Sometimes, particularly with knee, ankle, pelvis and back issues you are never again at peak fitness, but McArthy broke his leg? A clean break and a full heal should not make any long lasting difference.

Let's see. He could be a steal, he could be a Wilshere. I hope the former

There was one particular moment when he was in the centre about half way inside the WHU half and he made a fast directly forward pass on the ground to the edge of the box, which went straight to our player. It was a refreshing piece of directness that I hadn't seen much recently. He seems to have a good degree of footballing intelligence and if he stay fit will be a real addition. If, of course.

Yup, and he was in a decent position to recieve the ball just outside the box for a decent shot that was saved which we also miss from midfield.

There was a fair amount of incredulity on here when we signed him, but I think we're starting to see why Roy was so keen to bring him in. Low transfer fee, only just turned 29, plenty of steel, a fair bit of nouse and a touch of quality on the ball. Just hope he stays fit.

The only question mark over whether he was a good signing was his fitness (including the impact of previous injuries on his play). Never any doubts about his ability.

One rather prolific BBSer greeted his signing with the succinct analysis: "Shit player".

The majority of posters on any fans BBS have no clue, it's not serious analysis.

McCarthy was obviously classy, but a slight question over fitness.
It's obvious now that he was let go by a shit manager at Everton, and we have the benefit.

Last night he did for us what Cabeye used to do for us.

Whoever was responsible for signing Cahill, Ayew and McCarthy for Palace did a good day's work. They have been excellent so far this season. There was alot of pressure on Ayew to produce the goods and his work rate and goals have been top class. Cahill's experience and ability was a no brainer not to sign him and McCarthy has been excellent when called upon. We should be getting in youth now in January - Ferguson West Brom and Arron Norwich to build for the future as well as giving our Academy players a chance to impress.

Cahill, Ayew, McCarthy, Meyer, Kouyate, Guaita all bought in for about 」16 million in fee's. By comparison Bournemouth paid something like 」19 million for Solanke alone.

I agree that we should target some younger players in January - the kind who are out performing the Championship - they will keep, or increase, their value even if they can't make the step up (see Dwight Gayle). Hopefully we have a bit of money to throw it given the sale of AWB and the fantastic business mentioned above. If we're in the top 7 by the end of the year and can bring in a goal scorer and RB we'll be in the best place in terms of squad and position since we've been in the PL.

For the price he’s fine. However, he’s done nothing of note for me so far.
