Good on you for taking the initiative, think it would take more than a drum to get the main stand rocking! I like the idea of chants starting away from just the HF and that other fans get a chance to express themselves. Personally I would like to have more chants supporting individual players rather than rounds of the same old same old, especially as so many of the chants are replicated at different clubs substituting their team, even Glad all over has become a Man City fave now with their adapted words. You could see how much the fans support meant to Ayew on Saturday, it would be nice if at some point in every game we acknowledged every player in some way.

Er that's not what you said in your letter to the HF, in fact you said you only wanted it to back the HF chants.
Bit sly all of that imo

I came & spoke to you (tall bloke, grey cap) at the end of the game from the back of W. I hope I was polite but I was pretty banjaxed by then. I'd also aimed some mild heckling in your direction during the match, but it was pretty civil as there were young families in front of us. I recall mentioning something about drumming during hey jude being a sacrilege to the chant.

I quite enjoyed the drum

From row 31 it was a bit hit and miss in the first half, but by the 2nd half much improved.

Maybe add the drum when a chant starts so it drives some atmosphere rather than trying to start a chant with the drum.

But as said by others, good on you for trying to create some atmosphere as since the HF have moved the AW has been noticeably quieter, and far less singing.

I thought the atmosphere in AW stand was great against Villa. In fact the end of the AW, the lower Holmesdale and some of the main stand weíre rocking during the second half.

I took my daughters aged 5 and 8 to the game, we always stand in block Z, around row 10 and whilst they watch the football theyíre more keen on the singing and sense excitement generated to a significant degree by the HF. Now the HF has moved to the SS I was worried it would be quiet in block Z but actually it was better. I would love the AW to continue contributing independently to cheering on the team and creating a hostile environment for our opponents and imo the drum added to that.

I tell my daughters that a football game is a celebration and that weíre part of it. I donít mind if that means missing some of the play or having a loud drum beat nearby. Although I appreciate that some do want to sit and analyse the play it canít be denied that Selhurst is more fun when itís rocking.

And so far 4 points from two games and 0 goals conceded.

No. That's still embedded in Worksop's head. His other sock is reserved for wanking.

How about no drums and actually singing and chanting....and verbal sounds of discontent (not booing) when things arent great, rather than mindnumbing drum beats and the same song for 15 mins.

Overall, it's a thumbs up from me. As others have said, important to keep it as simple as possible, leave the fancy stuff to the HF drummer(s).

The atmosphere in the AW is fine. It doesn't need a drum thank you.

Eh? How about a drum in the Whitehorse. About time they made a bit more noise. Get Away fans cornered.

I sit in AW block Y. I think the drum can work but I think you need to be in tome with the HF. I know itís hard with the time delay as you are far away but nail that and it would work. As a drummer myself, you need a bigger lower bass drum. Itís the low frequency that is needed. Keep it up though!

Big question has the move of the HF had a positive impact? I don't think it has, as the big wall of noise is made when our team has a rea go at goal in front of the Holmesdale. The 'link' with the Arthur only seems to work really well then as well. Answer is for the team to attack like they are the home side.

I have supported the club since the late 70s and go to every home
and nearly all away games (8000 points) I have stood at the back of
Block W for years and have noticed a massive decline in the atmosphere, especially the last few as we seem to be overtaken by
day trippers, tourists and at times away fans. I was really disappointed
at the Everton game, that by moving the HF/Singing section the link with theArthur has been lost and definitely from the back of Blocks V W & X we can now longer see them or hear what they are singing, resulting in the Arthur being quieter than ever, all we can hear now are the away fans.

Rather than moan & lose the atmosphere altogether I decided to try & do something about it. I originally put the idea of a drum in the Arthur to Steve Parish in Switzerland during pre season and he was very positive, so on Tuesday at the Colchester game I asked again & have been given permission to give it a try.

My idea is NOT to bang it continuously but ONLY if & when a chant
has started to try to increase it & spread it along the Arthur, I
acknowledge it didn’t quite work in the first half but improved in
the second & is definitely a work in progress.
Again as it is difficult to see & hear the new SS, encouraged by others
around me we started our own songs, this really seemed to get things
going - and who’s says we have to sing the same as the Holmesdale
we never have before !
I also tried moving around so no one area has to suffer continuously
as I know it’s loud and irritating to some (I also chose the smallest drum.)
As for timing issues, let’s face it, that’s always happened between
stands, in fact we don’t all keep in time when Glad All Over is played
over the tannoy.
I am sick of hearing the away fans sing “ Where’s your famous atmosphere “ & am trying to get the Arthur involved again rather
than do nothing. On Saturday I only had one negative comment to
my face & when leaving had loads of people come over and say well
done.

I intend to try & give it a go & would really appreciate your support,
if it fails at least I can say I tried.
Ultimately it's a good idea, well done for getting off your arse and making something happen.

I think for it to be really successful your drum needs to somehow be in sync with the HF drummer in order to magnify the overall impact of a few thousand all singing at once together rather than smaller pockets individually singing.

Is it even possible for two drummers to stay in sync hundreds of meters apart? Especially considering the HF want it all their way or the highway!

Oh and ignore the old fogy bores who hate drums and bands and atmospheres that are telling you not to bother, I rather they all stayed at home with their mute contribution to our wonderful atmospheres. IF IT'S TOO LOUD, YOUR TOO OLD!
