Everton

After hearing an assortment of deluded Everton fans bray over the Wilf saga and Silva's pathetic comments post opening game, it's been worth watching Everton's results to see how well their expectations of breaking the top six manifest.

This from the BBC Sport Website on their defeat at Burnley today made particularly pleasant reading:

Having spent more than £100m on new signings in the summer, Everton had harboured hopes of breaking into the top six. Instead, they find themselves just one place outside the relegation zone with two wins from their opening eight games this term.

They will drop into the bottom three at the end of the weekend if Newcastle beat Manchester United at St James' Park on Sunday.

This was the first time since January 2015 under Roberto Martinez that Everton had lost four in a row in the league and after keeping back-to-back clean sheets at the start of the season, Everton have now gone without one for six games.

It is evident where their problem lies.

Since Silva came to England in January 2017 as Hull manager, his sides - which also include Watford - have conceded 45 goals from set-pieces, including six this campaign - a league high.

Failing to pick up Hendrick proved vital on this occasion and the home fans chanted "you're getting sacked in the morning" in Silva's direction.

Silva stood inside his dugout for the duration of the game - slipping his hands into his pockets after his side conceded and looking forlornly at the turf.

Everton’s transfer business was a bit like a woman who needs a hip replacement getting a boob job instead. Made big additions to what was already a well functioning attack, and neglected signing top class replacements for Zouma and Gueye. Particularly Gueye, who basically carried them for years.

Yeah, Silva deserves criticism. But any manager who comes in will struggle to fill expectations too. Their transfer strategy is just dogshit, has been for years.

The way things are going Silva might get a whisper in his ear but no cuddle.

Someone should play the great escape for Wilf....

It's a strange coincidence about how many of these managers - and who have come via Watford - seem to set the world on fire and then a bit later on get found out. Silva, Javi Gracia, and it looks for all the world like Quique Flores too.

Have to say I'm hoping the season brings Everton and Watford more of the same. Everton for their delusions of.grandeur and their attempt to take advantage of the Wilf situation, Watford for their admitted tactic of kicking lumps out of Wilf. Hope they both get relegated.

Didn’t realise they’d spent over £100m this summer. Can you imagine the wage bill on top of that too?!

Their owners aren’t going to put up with the sh*t they’re churning out for much longer.

He showed his true colours when we stuffed Hull at Selhurst. He had no fight in him that day. His team was getting hammered in a must win match and he stood silent on the touchline.

Bet Wilf is glad he didn't go there now.

More likley to play in the Championship than the Champions League with Everton.

Hope the fraud stays in charge.

It seems that increasingly these days, managers are recruited by the top clubs due to the strength of their relationships with certain super-agents rather than due to any innate coaching ability.

I have to admit watching on TV in Germany, I was amazed by his reaction to falling behind that day. Gave up at 1-0.

I wasn't sure about him but it was still reasonable to say he had done well to get Hull back in contention to stay up with the squad they had. The start at Watford was great but then again it was really hard to judge. Did they go shit because he wasn't interested after they turned down Watford's approach? Was it Watford players doing their usual good start and then not bothering for the 2nd half of the season? Or is he just a manager who has a short term impact, followed by him being completely found out?

I still wasn't sure what to think.

It's not looking good for him at Everton right now though. The fact a lot of the usual strugglers have made decent starts will be heaping the pressure on too. He might still sort it out yet though. After all the season is still relatively young but he won't have too much time to do it.
