Hey Max, we recognise you’re a good MF on the ball who likes to pass to forward thinking players and have a solid defence behind you.

Come here and we’ll bring you on with 10 mins to go when we’re 1-0 down, with no striker and no other MF’s capable of passing more than 5 yards. Even our best player can’t pass the ball in front of a player. Come on and do your thing, oh and cover the entire pitch, make sure you track back and break up play.

Cabaye had years at Newcastle to get used to the league.
He was also bigger and a more defensively minded player, with that aggression, until his legs went and he couldn’t get round the pitch.

Cabaye was more defensively minded but apparently Meyer played his best football as one of a holding two at Schalke. Say we ignore that and tell ourselves he’s an attacking player that doesn’t defend well, that leaves us with an Eze type player. Eze has done more going forward in fifteen games than Meyer has in three years. He hasn’t had any time to get used to the league and has come from a lower level. Allegedly he’s been played out of position as well.

I respect your opinion but for me MM is a dud and has been seriously found out. He’s out of contract at the end of the season, why is nobody banging down his door to get him onboard? If his agent is worth his salt he’ll be telling him don’t go out on loan as time at another club will seriously compromise his chances of getting a good contract anywhere next season.

Has the BBS collectively agreed that Cabaye was a very good player now? Wasn’t so long ago that he was ‘overrated,’ ‘sideways passer’ etc etc

It took years for some to realise how good he was. Loads of the people now clamouring for a cabaye replacement only realised how good he was once he had gone for a while.

It was about 2 years before most stopped slaggibg him off for not getting 20 goals and 20 assists a season because they thought he was a number 10!!

Wonderful player. Legs went sadly. But for 60 mins or so a game his quality was worth having anyway. A rare combination of the aggression and tackling we need yet so composed and quality on the ball.

He was better and proven, but a lot older and more experienced.
I'm not saying Max is a world beater, we should have handled the situation completely differently even if it was just for us to get our money back.

Earlier today a couple of BBSers were saying he was a massive waste of money.

For me Cabaye is my favourite signing since promotion- I still miss him and used to love watching him play. How good it would be if we were able to replace him?

Yep, spot on.

I think many of us - me included - thought he was a more attacking midfielder than he was by the time he arrived with us. But he was class regardless. Never replaced.

Same. Sad when he left. Outstanding work off the ball. Never been replaced
