Proper footballer with a lovely touch, awareness and eyes for a pass. Keeps possession very well. A little lightweight but that can be compensated for by playing two dms. The kind of player I want to watch.

Obviously not one Roy wants to watch though. He has an awareness none of the midfield players seem to have and he creates things with delicious little flick or punched oases. Linked exceptionally well with Wilf.I think Michys movement suits him too.

Let’s hope we see more punched oases in the weeks to come!

Roy picks who he thinks will do the best job for the team. He has no doubts who the better goalkeeper is and i am sure he will pick Max once he feels he is his best option.

Max hasn't always played as well as he did today. I do wonder if having a striker who offers movement in and around the box means we will get far more out of Max too.

Not having him not starting anymore, especially when Teflon Macca is ahead of him. The one midfielder who actually creates and is smart on the ball, combining with Wilf and PVA to open up defences. There's no excuse for it, I don't care if he's ******* 4 foot 3 and weighs 5 stone, he is mustard and needs game time to develop. 3 workhorses in midfield is just OTT and leads to laboured performances.

Jesus Christ, two poor matches out of four in the cup, and his entire career of playing in central midfield goes out the window? What about Guiata, looked a calamity? Also, every other reason I stated in my posts on the last page.

Do you apply the same standard to Guaita? Somebody that was so clearly better than Hennessey due to his previous pedigree, had a couple of less than brilliant games in the cup and people were genuinely saying he was no better than Hennessey. Previous pedigree of a player needs to be factored in, and if a player isn't performing against 'lesser talent', perhaps the tactics and role given to him might be to blame?

The sooner Roy goes the better. Any other manager would be absolutely buzzing to have a player like Meyer in their side. We have a 71 year old dinosaur who hasn’t got a scooby when it comes to technically gifted players. The fans that comment on here and say he’s not deserving of a starting spot epitomise Roy and highlight all of his faults. It’s emabarissing we have a full German international on the bench and Jeffrey Schlupp is starting ahead of him.

Roy Hodgson has managed more "technically gifted" players than you have managed to craft thoughtful posts.

Insulting, ageist rants against our manager really have no place on here.

Just watched the 30 minute highlights of our game that Sky screen over night, commentator makes the point that Meyer made a difference.

The link up play with Zaha is very good and definitely helps Zaha spring into life, they are clearly on the same wavelength, forward passing between these two is cutting through defences.

About time we did this from the start at home instead of trying to rescue a result with it.

Meyer should start, he deserves it. Sadly though I doubt Roy will divert from his rigid stance.

I like Meyer, but I'm not convinced that he is strong enough yet, to start and play 80mins and be influential throughout, defensively a bit average. But can be very much a game-changer if brought on with 25mins to go.

He's up against Schlupp who is getting better and better offensively (and he too works well with Wilf)...or Macca, who does a hell of a lot of work defensively, but also gets in some very dangerous positions going forward, even if he missed a couple of chances yesterday (I think that second one he thought too much about it instead of just hitting). Add in Kouyate who looks very good defensively and is strong going forward.

We're in a good place in midfield which the defensive and chances created stats support.

Max's time will come though...no doubt

The lady who stands next to me asked before the game what I thought would happen yesterday. I said we would be pretty boring for 60 minutes trying to stay in the game. Then on the hour Roy would start making changes to make us a better team, bring on players who should have started. If we are losing we would go on to draw and if we were drawing at the time we would go on to win.

Meyer has to start, Batshuayi play more and we will start winning more games.

Meyer is by far our best passer, play him behind the front three and play a worker beside Luka and we will have a much better side and if the front three includes Batshuayi all the better.
