One of the other problems is that most fans don't still seem to like if if their club makes a profit! If they see money in the bank they demand it is spent on new players.

Any sensible club should not be paying more than 70% of their income on wages and even Chelsea run on a lot more sensible basis than the beginning of the Abramovich era. Can UEFA or FIFA enforce it? I doubt it.
Frankly, I don't care if the most expensive players leave. Good riddance. Their wage demands are half of the problem.

there was a piece in the Observer yesterday about this; I've binned it already but sure it said that the 300k that Accrington have to find to survive equated to 2 hours of the 20 Premier League Clubs combined wage bills.
