No.

He might have been paid a fortune but (unlike for example Jose Mourinho) he managed to build a hugely profitable club through his transfer dealings.

But Man Utd make more money than arsenal so that Mourinho argument is non and void.

He clearly managed some great teams and Henry and co at there pomp was as good as the epl has seen but this talk of him changing English football etc? Not for me

Nicely summed up. At his height they played some incredible football . We will soon find out who stopped Arsenal spending the money to keep up with the big spenders

Whatever we say Wenger was a giant

They were the best Premier League team, full stop.

I'd find it hard to argue that AW has had no impact on our top flight.

I hope they suffer for a long, long time now. Yep, he was a bit stale there, but f*ck me, the noise and drama their fans made over it, totally pathetic.

Give them something to really weep about now.

He started looking at Arsenal as a business & was very good at it. They are probably one of the only Premier league teams to operate at a healthy profit but consequently his focus had moved away from being successful & competing for titles..

I think that Arsenal fans will come to realise that they have lost not only a wonderful manager over the years but the huge benefit of a stability of approach - evolution rather than revolution. They have joined the rest of us and will almost certainly have a merry-go-round of managers now. The chaos and disruption, not to say wasted cash, will not help their cause.

I think it's a shame that it ended this way. Having got them through the stadium move without a huge impact it would have been a nice end if he had a couple of winning seasons but uber cash wins now and they aren't in that money league now.

I have enjoyed watching the football he believes in albeit frustrating watching some of the players failing to live up to it for a while now.

Maybe he would like South London if Roy is not up for it?

This really. He probably should have gone a few years ago, but by god they've been obnoxious about it and some Arsenal fans should really show a bit more respect. I suspect it will take a good few years for them to recover. I must admit I find the lack of succession planning a bit odd.

Maybe he's heard that Roy is looking for a young understudy who can take over from him when he retires (in five years or so....)

A great stadium.
A great squad of players, but underperforming, finishing 4th-6th every year.
A massive amount of money to spend.

The question really is whether the above is all the actuality, or was Wenger the one doing well to achieve the above.
Not sure i'd agree on the squad. They have some very good players backed up by a fairly mediocre bunch, particularly in defence.

I suspect the money will be the real decider. If they follow a new model and pay a premium you might be right.

They need a manager who injects bright ideas, plays a decent brand of Football, not afraid to drop senior players, plays a fluid system.

Got to be Pards hasn't it!

Wenger' early days saw some brilliant Arsenal teams, but they have been going slowly backwards for a while now.

Overall he’s done a very good job. Hope he enjoys his retirement. The next arsenal manager has a tough job to get them back in the top four. I don’t think they’ll collapse, but I do reckon they’ll spend a few seasons on the fringes, like Liverpool did.

If they follow a new model that is unjust on Wenger.

I'm sure Arsenal do have a plan - but they aren't likely to reveal it on the day he announces he's leaving because that might make it look as if he's been sacked ...
