Can't help thinking that Max always seemed far more effective when coming on for the last 20-30 minutes of a game. With a full 'pre-season' he will hopefully have an impact for 90 minutes, if not then I'd be inclined to continue to bring him off the bench, gradually increasing his time on the pitch game by game.

Certainly some good signs in pre-season but we all know that pre-season rarely counts for anything once the real stuff starts.

In patches he's looked excellent. Composed, lively, accurate all the things you want in midfield. But he also looked lost a lot of the time. I'm sure he's a good player, but I don't think he's shown enough yet. Fingers crossed he makes a big impact this season of course.

As for those people who didn't understand just how good Cabaye was, I can only assume that they watch football with a completely different mindset to me.

Max seems to be discarded from most peoples "team" now we have new additions in midfield.

Has he been reduced to the bench, or is there still hope for him? Can he play with Luka and Camarasa in midfield? Leaving Jimmy and James Mac on the bench.

Needs players on his wavelength, too quick thinking for some of our players.

Totally agree with this.

Hoping for a good season from Max this season.

Cabaye was pure class, I still think he could do a job for us now, coming on in the last 20-30mins to sure up CM....... but he’s gone and I am still gutted.

I've a feeling he'll start today, with Jimmy Mac and Luka..

New duo on the bench

But as many have said, key season for him and if he doesn't fire, he'll be out quickly

What does Max Meyer actually do ? There must have been a reason why noone else was in for him when we managed our "coup"in getting him. Something that obviously our wonderful scouting team and sporting director didn't pick up on.

A rich man's Barry Bannan and Johnny Williams all rolled into one. In fact, both of them may have made more of an impact over the past 12 months.

People will say it's because he's played out of position........I would still expect a top talent to show glimpses of brilliance even if asked to play somewhere new.

Meyer just doesn't have the strength to succeed at this level. It's too physical for him.

It wasn’t any “coup” getting him. I did point out at the time, there is a reason no “big club” came in for him, even when he was available on a Bosman.

He’s the German Jonny Williams
The bavarian Carl fletcher

He's almost halfway through a 125k a week, three-year contract and so far he's done nothing. A really bad signing.

I'm not sure what the problem is, as there must be some talent there given his time in Germany. But I entirely agree that he is given excuse after excuse after excuse by some on here for his lack of performance.

Schlupp gets slated for being picked each week, but has (subject to a few lapses of concentration) brought significantly more to Palace than Meyer has come close to.

One of Parish greatest moments was getting some of our fanbase to buy into the “Meyer of London” claptrap and get them to purchase £70 replica shirts with this guys name on the back.

He’s the king of spin for sure .

Actually, our shirt prices are pretty reasonable.
I hope this adds to the debate.

Around £6.5m per year if certain salary sites are to be believed.

Also, Liverpool and Arsenal were not interested in him with his wages demands, again if you believe certain stories.
