Congratulations to Exeter City

One of the biggest upsets in the FA Cup last night was Exeter beating Doncaster. The radio commentator mentioned that the tie could well have been their last in the FA Cup - they are 750,000 in debt, which they have to pay within the next 10 months, in order to avoid liquidation.

Last night I said that I hoped they'd draw Man Utd away, as that single tie would save the club from extinction.

Having got their dream, club-saving draw, Exeter City fans must be relieved and overjoyed.

This is what football's all about.

I'm really pleased for them, great tie, sort out the finances and be able to walk out on a pitch where so many greats in the past have done. The most recent examples include ships, derry and butterfield

Crude calculations:

Call it an average of 15 a ticket.

67,000 x 15 = 1,005,000

45% of which is 452,250.

Fantastic story. I used to 'follow' them a few years back as I've family down there, but haven't heard much about their fortunes since they went down. I didn't realise their plight was so desperate. Makes you realise how fickle a last minute defeat in the Premiership really is, when you can take next weeks fixture for granted, does't it?

Exactly.

We're in the Premiership. Secure future. Quite possibly in the Premiership again next season, at worst we'll be challenging for promotion from the Championship.

We've been where they are now though, and it's not nice.

Ironically (I think it's irony, or maybe just unfortunately), Scunthorpe United, who knocked out Wrexham, got drawn away to Chelsea. How an away tie against Chelsea would have helped Wrexham.

Wrexham fans must be gutted, but let's hope Man Utd do something extra to help out Exeter, donating their portion of the gate-receipts or even programme sales to the club.

If your calculations are correct then they are still in some trouble which is a massive shame. However are you sure they get 45 % of the gate?

And Dean Moxey (scored the winner, if anyone doesn't know) supports Man Utd. Obvious being born and bred in Devon, really.

In the FA Cup, 45% of the gate goes to the home team, 45% to the away team, and 10% goes to the FA.

The tickets will be a lot more than 15 so the nett profit will be higher than your calculations.

We are pleased with Spurs away. We need the money for this protracted planning inquiry and endless legal bills.
I also think we have a chance of doing to them what we did to West Ham.

More congratulations to Exeter City, they made the Conference play-offs on Tuesday night with a convincing 4-1 over Stafford Rangers, should have been about 7-0 really, Moxey got a hat-trick. Handy player Moxey, left-footed, nippy, great first touch, pretty consistent goal scorer, but usually plays left midfield leaving room for two centre forwards. Might be worth a try at Championship level I'd say.

He is indeed, came on for the last 20 mins or so at right wing and looked totally disinterested and half-hearted. Gave the ball away as often as not.

I went to the conference play off final last year when Exeter lost to Morecombe, as I've got a mate who supports Exeter. Wayne played but was poor and was substituted. However, I think he's done alright this season.
