I think, in all fairness, it should also be highlighted that based on this Hennessey is not the worst keeper in the league. Yeah he’s been outperformed by Guaita in every stat, but there are a few keepers who are clearly performing less well overall than Hennessey is.

I think that’s true as well. We’ve become obsessively over critical of goalies on here. The Hen has done a respectable job for Palace in the Premier for more than a hundred games and, given a run and confidence, he could continue playing in the top division.

Tbf for most of his time in goal for Palace, he was pretty crap. He certainly appeared to have improved over the last 18 months, again on the eye test. But if this is his new improved level, he’s still pretty poor (but not the worst).

The question I suppose is was there an actual improvement or not. Or were we being fooled by our eyes. If there is, then wow he would have been bad before. If there wasn’t then people were perhaps giving him too much grief before, but too much praise now, as he’s still pretty poor based on these stats.

I do like stats like this though, as it does takes the visual bias we all have away. They did something similar in baseball a few years ago, and it was quite enlightening. Suddenly players some players who fans thought were brilliant defensively (because of spectacular plays) were found to only be making spectacular plays because their range was shit and other players would make the same play easily because they had better range.

I doubt the Hen has ever been the worst in the division on these measures over the seasons he’s played for us. I think that’s how he’s kept his place.

Well we don’t know.

What these stats show is he’s now pretty bad at shot stopping. That’s not news to anyone.

It also shows that now he’s not all that on crosses, he’s bang average. Which I imagine is a bit of a surprise, even to Hodgson who dropped Guaita for Hennessey against Burnley on Hennessey’s apparent superior ability to deal with crosses, when Guaita’s performance on crosses is up there with the best in the league.

All that matters is the correct keeper is now number one (well 31!).

Thought he made it too easy for Ozil to score today but excellent stop - very Jules like - as that ball flew towards our far post.

I thought he was a little at fault for the goal but was very good apart from that. The weather probably reminded him of home

I donít think you can blame him for Ozilís goal. I also donít think de Gea was to blame for the similar goal that Puncheon scored against him in the cup final.

Unai Emery gave Guaita his debut at Valencia, bet he wished he had him in goal for Arsenal.

Whilst I can't criticise Vicente, and love him to bits, Unai probably isn't pining too hard, he has Leno who is class.

That knee thing not only looks stupid, it doesn't appear to work. Apart from that, he played really well.

Seen it several times now, made it easier for Ozil.

Had a good game though.

He's still got two fingers taped together (I noticed, after the match when they went to applaud our fans).

He has his ring and pinky fingers taped together on both hands. In the videos he had his right hand out, but his left glove also has the big two finger together "finger" too.
