Pass - trying to cast the agent's character in doubt (e.g. planting false stories).

Looks like they are going down the route of claiming negligence on the part of the agent who arranged the deal & the unsafe travel, who was acting on Nantes behalf in the sale. I can see their logic.

Also, I'm coming around to the thought that it's time to end / change the transfer window. Maybe coincide it with a winter break or something?

This pressure to complete deals isn't doing anyone any favours - especially the players who become just a pawn in the games of agents & chairmen. Sala probably wouldn't have been flown over the channel in a hastily arranged shitty plane with an unqualified pilot if we didn't have transfer window. JAT.

Curiouser and curiouser. If they start challenging signings because agents talked it up.....or in fact they are clearly going for the not even signed. Or it was someone else's fault. The murky world of agents, and how close they are to some old time managers is maybe coming under the spotlight.

There will always be a deadline day and there will always be last minute deals.

He made the choice to go home and then fly back so soon, I don’t really think you can blame the ‘window closing’

Im for scrapping the transfer windows though, and reverting back to the old system for a March deadline. This is what has given way to player power. It was done for fear of contracts being walked out on and so they wanted to restrict the time this would happen to two windows, but this never happened. They were fearful of the game changing similar to the ‘Bosman’.

Isn't Warnock telling everyone that Sala was "his" player? He might want to get on the same page as the team's lawyers.

Great piece written by that chap.
Such a shame a lost life is the reason it was written in the first place.

Maybe, but clubs are complicit in all this. They use these agents when it suits. To varying degrees, all clubs have links with certain agents that they favour. The Cardiff one looks particularly interesting. (I imagine there must be a fair amount if similar at Wolves)

Or every other club. It’s all as dodgy as ****. No way should these agents command these type of fees. They must be performing other roles in these transfers. A mate of mine was in a car with two top Premier league footballers and an agent ( a few years back now ). Stopped off at the agents house where he got a spade out of the boot and dug up from his garden a sack full of cash.

Rather uncomfortably this all cuts pretty close to home, given our club's own rather cosy relationship with Will Salthouse and Unique Sports Management including the DirtyBird investment vehicle. I still fear that there is more to come on that, and possibly this Sala fiasco might finally be the catalyst which opens up a few cans of worms about agents and their relationships with managers and directors.

Extraordinary isn’t it. When they signed him they were pretty self-satisfied that they’d been successful, possibly beating off other clubs for his signature.

Now they think the agent planted the story that other clubs were interested to create interest in him, and presumably will then try to argue they overpaid?

So what if the story wasn’t true, the press speculate and print football rumours every day. It was up to Cardiff to determine whether Sala was the right striker for them and to pay what they felt he was worth. They weren’t moaning they’d overpaid on the day they announced he’d signed.

Excellent article

Shows how rotten football transfers and agents really are

Shades of Jonathan Benteke at Cardiff too

So if they get the answers they want and don't have to pay, assuming they will get a points deduction for registering an ineligible player with the Premier league and Welsh FA?
