I was 13 and due (and had a ticket) to go to the Wimbledon away game but was playing a local football match for my team and was due to meet my Dad and Brother at the railway station, but our team coach got delayed. My Dad and Brother made the decision to leave without me as the last train left to make the match. As our team bus arrived at the station I couldn't see my family waiting and the eyes started welling up. I got myself to a phone box and reverse charged home in flood of tears. My Mum came and collected me and I was inconsolable - I remember it felt like my world had fallen apart because I was missing the game. My Mum consoled me, gave me lots of treats as I prepared to listen to the match on the radio. I remember Mum having strong words with my Dad when they got back for not waiting and he was beyond apologetic and has been forever since. He still feels guilty some 30 years later and still gets spoken about and brought up.
