vs Cardiff

Speroni 6 Not much to do but not commanding. 1 save you'd expect him to make early on

Ward 8 awesome
Delaney 8 rock solid
Gabbidon 7 fine
Mariappa 7 decent

Bannan 7 good 2nd half
Jedinak 7 won lots of headers
KG 7 not a fan but much better
Puncheon 6 mixed bag - still hope Bolasie starts the next one, but improved

Jerome 8 could have scored more but worked so hard and good goal
Chamakh 9 MOM different class. Effort, touch is sublime and a cracking finish. He is some player

We are staying up. 3 wins in 4 is excellent. Bring on Chelsea

Fantastic game, best I’ve seen this season, real tempo, gusto and urgency. There was a real togetherness on display, and we restricted Cardiff to very little, chalking up another clean sheet.

The football was good to watch, often breaking up play with swift break always, but also mixing things up playing down the channels. What pleased me most, we wanted it more than Cardiff, who were made to look decidedly average, and man for man we dominated across the pitch
Jedinak did a fine job shadowing the two centre backs, and after a shaky start to the season has been superb of late, and seemed to be involved in everything good today. Delaney/Gabbidon looked assured, both plating well, without ever really looking troubled.

Chamakh deserved his goal, and was composed in his finish. Chamakh has clearly adapted to the new Pulis regime, and is thriving playing just behind Jerome, and his confidence returning is there for all to see. Too many people have been overly critical of this guy, questioning all aspects of his game, but from start to finish he was superb. His work rate - tackling, closing down the opposition, and link up play with Jerome is developing week on week. There was one instance where he battled back and chased down the ball and won possession back from what looked like a lost cause in the first half. We wouldn’t have seen this from the same player in August. Nice to see the guy smiling again.

Jerome was awesome today, and showed what an intelligent player he is, leading the line superbly. His positional play was excellent, and he used the channels very effectively. I’ll be the first to admit the guy is proving me wrong. His work rate for the team has improved, but if I was to have one gripe he sometimes looks to laid back. There was one instance in the first half after about 20 mins, where there almost seemed a delayed reaction from CJ in realising he had a clear run on goal only for the Cardiff back four retrieve possession. Took his goal well.
Puncheon has been poor since arriving, but his turn and cross for the goal was superb. He still goes awol to much for my liking, and is far to eratic when he’s near the 16 yard box, shooting on sight, when perhaps should look for a cross, but his performance was a damn sight better than what we’ve seen in most games this season.

Big fan of Bannan, and again looked busy, particularly 1st half, but his set pieces at times are poor, often struggling to get the ball beyond the first man. His work ethic, and what he brings to the team is there for all to see, and his game is improving all the time.
Positional sense of the back four was superb and regimented, and restricted Cardiff to very little.

Ward is still the unsung hero imo, he offered a lot offensively today, making clever runs in link up play. His defensive header early on from a deep in-swinging corner was invaluable. Only slight criticism was perhaps his positional sense for the early chance given to Frazer Campbell. Showed his versatility to the team, having to switch flanks to replace Moxey’s departure.

Absolutely buzzing at the moment, taking another 3 points into a Saturday night, and things are improving week on week, where as 6 weeks ago it looked like the season could be an embarrassment. Next 3-4 games will be tough, but we’re in the pack, which is all we could have ever asked coming into the festive period. COYP

Great all round team performance with plaudits rightly going to Chamakh and Jerome. I was also very impressed with Marriapa, he's a far better right back than he is a centre back. But, I was absolutely blown away with how comfortablly Ward slotted in at left back and was immense in his defensive and attacking play. I honestly think if he keeps improving at this rate he will soon be very much on the radar of a top 6 club and eventually England .

Very solid and well organised. We pressed high up the pitch which put Cardiff under a lot of pressure great closing down by our front 2. Ward great when switched across, Delaney didn't put a foot wrong. But Chamakh for his overall game, work rate and goal just pips everyone else. A good day when there's a queue for mom.

Same team and the same performance - but with a bit more confidence.

I was shocked at how much Caulker and Turner struggled with Jerome.

Make the most of it though as the fixture list toughens up over xmas.

A real, genuine team performance.

Did anyone see what happened to Moxey? Didn't see what happened but obviously he went off early.

Jules - 7.5 - cracking save early on that kept us in it, a couple of dodgy kicks
Moxey/Mariappa - 7 solid and good runs
Gabbidon - 8 solid as a rock
Delaney - 7.5 much less hoofing, commanding in the box
Ward - 8.5 almost MOM, brilliant right back performance, pacey, calm, assured
Puncheon - 7.5 ran his socks off, final ball could've been better on occasion
KG and Jedi - 8 dominant midfield performance, these 2 know each other so well, won almost very header in the midfield
Bannan - 7.5 fantastic energy and hounding, however his set pieces are v inconsistent - sometimes brilliant sometimes not clearing the first man
Jerome - 9 MOM never stopped running, strong, determined, outstanding
Chamakh - 8.5 delighted he scored again today, looks a different player, so important defensively again, looks like he wants to be here and has a job to do

Overall, chuffed. Cardiff are no walkovers but to be honest (never thought I'd say it) we made them look average.

Keep it up Palace!

I've never understood the criticism of players 'not getting it past the first man.' It is *easy* to get it past the first man, you can just smash it past the entire penalty area if you want, 'getting it past the first man' shouldn't be something the set piece taker should be concentrating on, but putting in consistently dangerous balls. Let's say there's a 50% chance with a lower delivery that it hits the first man but on the other 50% we have a 10% of scoring versus say a 100% chance of getting past the first man with a higher delivery but a 4% chance of scoring, the first option is still better. Riskier but with more upside if it comes off. I could get it past the first man 90% of the time but you'd never score from my corners!

As for the performance, excellent. My primary concerns about Pulis was his style of play, his youth policy and his transfer record. The latter two are still unknowns at this point and the West Ham game was abysmal to watch but it was far far better today, hopefully he can keep this sort of style going. There is still the clear instruction for the defenders to 'get rid' when in doubt, but further forward we played some decent stuff on the floor; Chamakh in particular was outstanding with his touches and link up play. We had 19 (!) shots vs their 10 and they never really looked like scoring past the first minute, which they should have buried.

Superb performance, really entertaining. Chamakh and Jerome both MOTM, with Jedi and Ward not far behind. Pulis set us up perfectly as well, making sure Cardiff didn't cause us problems. I was in the Arthur today because reasons and we still sounded great (Cardiff were shit for 85 mins). If I could have my legroom from the LH and proper ale instead of that Carling shite I'd stay there. Starting to get more and more confident of us staying up...

Damo - massive headers, specifically one where he just stepped out quickly and smashed it right out of the area, in the background him and Gabbidon have really performed recently.

Ward - had to go to left back, played with such determination, he actually has a habit of dribbling between the opposition and it really helps, he makes gaps appear, very impressive today.

Chamakh - a wonderful performance, I really hope those who have been so very harsh on him can hold their hands up tonight. You have to applaud superb performances in sport and today he was just that. On the ball he's bloody brilliant, he took it round people, turned quickly, moved it on and scored an excellent goal.

Jerome - as a above, he was just sensational. I cannot find anything in his game today that he did wrong, I know he had chances, but they weren't all clear cut. His all round play was excellent, especially winning the balls coming at him, he doesn't take that many on with his head, he digs in and gets his feet or chest on it - so impressed.

Barry Bannan - love this guy, buzzes round the pitch, did anyone see that pass in the first half he hit with the outside of his boot?

All in all, today was brilliant, there is a feeling around the ground now of pride again and also a connection with the team. The celebrations for Marouane's goal were evidence of that. I must say, I think our passing has improved massively, some of the cross field balls on the ground today for Puncheon and Jerome to run on to were pin point, Jedi and KG must take credit for that.

MOTM has never been harder choice, Chamakh & Jerome

Chamakh and Jerome caused all sorts of problems. Excellent performance by all 11 men. Back to back wins is huge. Great week! Back 4 superb, Jedinak and KG very good as always. Thought Bannan and Puncheon were excellent as well. Puncheon with a great assist. Come on you Palace!
