Will the Ashes debacle change the thinking of how much importance is given to county cricket? At the moment you get the impression that they carefully plan everything else, and then stick county matches into whatever days are left over, usually when conditions are at their worst

It should do but doubt it will. Suspect it is too late to move away from having the CC in the shoulder months, ie not mid summer on good pitches

The excuse for the sh*t timing of 2022 CC games, will be that they had already organised the T20 and the (pathetic) 100 dates and so couldn't change the CC dates.

IMO, what they should do is

1. Dump the 100 competition
2. Have the T20 over 3/4 weeks, running alongside the England ODIs
3. Start the season in April with the 50 over competition.
4. The County C'Ship runs from May to Sept, with a gap for the domestic T20s, making sure it runs alongside the Test series(s).
5. More pts deductions for Counties whose grounds men produce bowler friendly wickets - Let batsmen bat on good wickets where they can improve their technique and bowlers have to work out how to get batters out and not just put the ball in a certain area and the pitch will do the rest.
6. No player is allowed to play in the IPL, at the expense of the Test team ie in other words, if they insist on prioritising the IPL, then they cannot play in the Test team, any more.

None of this will happen, though, as the ECB are obsessed with making money.

You certainly would think what can only be described as the shambolic tour of Australia and it's planning starting with leading up to the First Test with it's lack of preperation of the players, how was that allowed to happen? which surely started the rot that set in for the rest of the tour.
And if that has not shown that firstly heads need to roll after that debacle, then a complete rethink on the setup of our Domestic game starting with much more attention paid to the County scene as a priority. But then you have to ask, how was it ever allowed to get to this state without the powers to be realising the long term consequences of their actions.
Lets hope bravery is now shown by the ECB, and action is taken in the weeks ahead and it's not just put on the back burner.
