The difference with JC was that he regarded at the best CF and the best defender at the same time.

Yeah, they also had Marshall who could do both too but he did end up mostly as a CF.

That's how I remember it too.

(07.11.23) CPFC Loanees Out

Owen Goodman (GK, 19) - Colchester (League 2)
Colchester Utd 3 - 1 Swindon Town - Again Owen played all 90 mins. A 3rd successive win for Colchester under their new manager. With 24 teams in Div 2, there are 46 potential games to be played. We want our academy players to get experience and this league certainly provides that.

JK Gordon (Cambridge United)
Cambs Utd 4 - 1 Spurs U21s (EFL Cup) JK started and played 89 mins. Appears he got an assist. Maybe a Cup game but still valuable minutes.

Players go out on loan for all sorts of reasons, but primarily for more experience / game time - I primarily do not comment on the players but concentrate on the minutes played if any and let those more knowledgeable give more informed thoughts

Luke Plange (striker, 20 yrs) - Carlisle (League 1)
Carlisle Utd 0-1 Bristol Rovers - Luke actually started and was subbed off on 82 mins.

John Kymani Gordon (striker, 20) - Cambridge (League 1)
Peterborough 5 - 0 Cambridge Utd - JK a 64th min sub appearance

Kofi Balmer (defender, 22) - Port Vale (League 1)
Lincoln 1 - 1 Port Vale - Kofi still not in the match day squad due to injury

Killian Phillips (Mid, 21) - Wycombe Wanderers, (League 1)
Wycombe W 0 - 1 Stevenage - Killian played the full 90 mins

Owen Goodman (GK, 19) - Colchester (League 2)
Colchester Utd 1 - 1 Sutton Utd - Owen played all 90 mins

Scott Banks (winger, 21) - St. Pauli (Bundesliga League 2)
An ACL injury means a long lay off for Scott.

Malachi Boateng - (Holding midfielder, 21) Dundee (Scottish Premiership)
Dundee 4 - 0 St. Mirren - Again Mal played the entire match

Kelvin Agho - (Left Back, 19) FC Vozdovac (Serbian Premier League)
Not sure what is going on here. Kelvin came from Nigeria c/o John Textor and spent last year at a Slovak club, presumably in their youth set up, as he did not appear. Now he has gone off to Serbia and yet to appear in a match day squad.

Wycombe W 1 - 2 Reading - Killian played the full 90 mins & scored, as per the BBC report "Wycombe equalised on their next attack. David Wheeler touched the ball back to Phillips, who eluded a Reading defender before curling a fine strike past David Button."
and for your delectation - the YouTube link To view the link you have to Register or Login. NB Wycombe are in the blue shirts....oh and hang on to the end as Phillips shot over the bar is the final clip

Looks like Owen Goodman has an ankle injury at the moment, he has missed their last couple of games.

The equaliser in what turned out to be a 5-1 thrashing. Still well played, son.

Lots and lots of negative comments about Plange online - most saying how useless he is and please send him back to Palace right now. One that did make me laugh last night was "I don't care that he scored tonight, please just leave him in Reading, don't being him back with you tonight".

It's not gone well for him up there has it.... The best moments that I have seen from him were in the pre-season friendlies he appeared in. There were at least some hints of what I thought DF had seen in him, albeit brief. I thought those might mean he had something to build on at League 1 level but it's not looking that way. Things seem to have gone downhill from there really. Could be many reasons and not every loan works out but not sure if there has been enough on show for us to persevere or not. Guess we find out towards the eof the season.

Slightly surprised that JKG hasn't shone a little more at Cambridge too. He has had some moments but can't seem to hold down a place other than on the bench. Killian seems to have won fans and mgt over once fit but much of his contribution is without the ball, regularly having lower numbers of touches and passes than his colleagues.

Goodman is getting too much practice behind a poor defence at Colchester but has seemed well appreciated.

Balmer's improving run has been broken up by injury and even worse for Banksy who looks to have lost the season.

So Goodman and Phillips leading the way but without the outstanding level of Rak-Sakyi last season.

I've always feared Plange simply isn't very good.

He scored a couple of goals for Derby and we almost immediately swooped in and paid £1m(ish) for him. Fear of missing out?

He was very poor for Derby the rest of the season after we signed him. Poor at Lincoln. Poor at Carlisle.

I suppose for an established PL club, 1m was worth the risk.

It looks like you will be proved right on this one and you have to wonder what the process was in how we ended up signing him.

It’s not like we wouldn’t have been aware of him at Arsenal and we’d have had an opportunity to sign him before he went to Derby.

Seems we decided to purchase him purely on 6 months worth of data and footage of his time in Derby’s U23s/first team.

He’s still young and looks like he can develop physically but doesn’t look like one we’re ever going to make a profit on.

Reading 5 - 1 Carlisle Utd - Luke was a 10th min sub & scored (his first Carlisle goal) Carlisle's consolation goal. The comments above re Luke are illuminating.

John Kymani Gordon (striker, 20) - Cambridge (League 1)
Cambridge Utd 0 - 3 Lincoln City - JK an 86th min sub

Kofi Balmer (defender, 22) - Port Vale (League 1)
Kofi still not in the match day squad due to injury

Killian Phillips (Mid, 21) - Wycombe Wanderers, (League 1)
Barnsley 1 - 0 Wycombe W - Killian started and subbed off on 68 mins
Nothing related to Killian but you have to see the Barnsley goal. The Wycombe GK is wasting time in injury time, the Barnsley forward runs up to him and bumps him, the GK falls dramatically, drops the ball and the Barnsley forward scores. The ref allows it and the GK later gets booked for dissent. To view the link you have to Register or Login

Owen Goodman (GK, 19) - Colchester (League 2)
Doncaster Rovers 3 - 1 Colchester Utd - Again Owen did not play (injured) and again it didn't go well for his replacement

Scott Banks (winger, 21) - St. Pauli (Bundesliga League 2)
An ACL injury means a long lay off for Scott.

Malachi Boateng - (Holding midfielder, 21) Dundee (Scottish Premiership)

Kelvin Agho - (Left Back, 19) FC Vozdovac (Serbian Premier League)

I agree with your assessment of the season to date, the only one that isn't mentioned is Malachi Boateng at Dundee. He regularly starts, so clearly has a career in football at some level, I just have no clue as to the level of the Scottish Premiership.
